SmartLists in Audio DVD

newleaf

Question

I've created a music DVD with four CDs' worth of music. When the DVD is played, I'd like the user to be able to access the Artist and Album information. But I don't see where in Toast to enter that information. Does it need to be part of the song track prior to import? I'm mastering the audio in Apple's Soundtrack Pro (part of FinalCut Pro).

If iTunes correctly describes the artist/album/track info when those CDs are inserted in your Mac then Toast will access that info when extracting the tracks from the audio CDs. Since your files aren't actually coming from audio CDs you need to import them to iTunes and add the tag information there. Then add them to Toast from iTunes using the Media Browser.

I think that might work for iTunes tracks, or purchased tracks, but since this material is original, mastered at 96/24, and needs to stay that way, I'm not sure iTunes is the right tool.

But thanks for the suggestion. And hello to Eugene, a beautiful city.

I found that I could edit the text in the playlist window in Toast by choosing the icon view list and double-clicking on the text. However, when I mounted the saved disc image Toast still used the file's default info. However, I was doing this test with tagged tracks from iTunes. Maybe it will work with your untagged tracks. Probably not, but worth a test with a couple tracks. Otherwise I'm pretty sure Toast grabs the info from the tags on files that support those and from the cdinfo database file for AIFF files. Is there a 96/24 format that supports tags? For example I see reference to 96/24 Flac. That is lossless and supports metadata and tags. Toast has a FLAC encoder via Export but I don't know if it does 96/24.

I'd like to know more about what you discover here. By the way, Eugene is having one of its ugly weather days today. But come the middle of June we're sure to see some sun again. It is indeed beautiful in the summer and fall.
