marcvid
When importing video from an HD camera, the video stutters while it is very smooth on the camcorder screen. This very obvious with camera movement.
marcvid
Canon does not supply video capture software; only digital photo capture and edit software for the digital camera side of the camcorder. The steps for capturing worked well with Easy Media Creator 10, it identified my camera, controlled my camera well, auto set the right resolution for video and audio - MPEG2. But when it came time to capture (especially motion), there was some stuttering. The player did not matter, it was the content that was a bit flawed. I played it on windows media, the roxio player, and an ATI player I had - all with the same results. I am wondering if I need more memory. I have 1GB on the system and I wonder if getting a bit more would fix it, but I have not seen any support threads that call out additional memory. I will try the shareware capture program you referenced and see if that works. I had previously tried Pinnacle's Studio 9 and that absolutely choked on the file size - captured only 5MB (a few seconds) flawlessly, gave indication it was still capturing, then closed itself after I hit "stop". marcvid
HD as in High Definition - pulling from a Canon HV20 through the firewire connection. The preview and video captured looks choppy. When I replay the saved file, there is a lot of stuttering and straight, vertical lines in the image look wavy. The original video on the camera LCD looks very crisp and smooth.
ggrussell
HD? As in high definition or Hard Drive?
bimicher
When importing video from an HD camera, the video stutters while it is very smooth on the camcorder screen. This very obvious with camera movement. Is this while importing on the preview screen? If yes, then how does it look when played through a video player? The display on the preview screen is usually not very good.
ggrussell
Sounds kind of odd that Canon wouldn't supply any software to transfer the video. Sony supplies their Motion Picture Browser, but I didn't like it all although it transferred files fine. Media Import may choke because it ties to translate to standard MPEG 2 while it captures the files which are .m2t (MPEG 2 transport stream). More memory probably wouldn't help, but a faster processor might. I liked the freeware app because it captures each 'take' or 'scene' to a separate file and Media Import didn't. The freeware app also uses the camcorders time/date stamp to create the filename making easy to sort.
ggrussell
Did the Canon come with software for capturing? There is also a freeware call HDVSplit which works well. What are you using to play the files? HDV from Sony HC7 played back fine on Windows Media Player 10 for me.
jhettin
I just recently purchased a Canon HV20. I was unable to capture any video on older products that worked fine with non HDV digital video. I am waiting to hear if Easy Media Creator 10 is even compatable with this camera or video type before I install it and void my return privileges. Canon does not offer any software for this camera. I hope you resolve your stuttering, did it occur on the final cut if you were able to make one?
