8004005 Error While Encoding Movie 1

Question

Ok here it goes. Started with issues with file types that Roxio would not accept with a JVC HD camcorder. Knowing that I had to change the file name type I read forum's and found a fix. I am now editing my file extention names with a program called Renamer. It has solved the file type problem but is a pain to just because it jumbles my files and doesn't keep them in order. At least I think it is that program but not sure. If you have an answer for that and a fix it would be nice to fix however the more pressing issue is now I am having a burning problem. I have created a job 1st using Cinamagic and saved that. Then I used the Slide show assistant to create a slide show of my pictures. And saved the file.

I created a movie in My DVD did some editing in the time line, added text, added 1 transition in the last frame nothing strage there I don't think.

Then I change the Menu screen by deleting the current and creating my own by using my cinamagic file as the new menu. Then I added my slide show as a second movie.

Am I doing something wrong here?

I have tried everything that has been suggested in the other postings. Defrag, Render softwhere change, video card update, directx, Is there anything else. I'm not a computer dummy but not a pro either. This is my 1st project with any Roxio product. Thought I was doing good. Oh and yep. I did try a smaller project 1st to make sure I wouldn't have this problem and it did burn just fine . That burn was just a few random clips from the camcorder after going thru Renamer. I was using Cyberlink and having trouble burning with that this is why I went and bought this. Fustrated with both products.

PLEASE help

I do understand that JVC chose to deviate from the rest of the world. I wish I would have know that before I bought it. Guess I need to do better homework before I buy next time.

Concerning JVC's software I did not ignore that software.. The software that they supply is the Cyberlink program that I mentioned and I was having nothing but burning issues with that also. So I tried Roxio thinking that there was a software issue with the program. Believe me I tried every option to try and get that program to work. I went as far as paying the $30 to get voice support for their program and all they kept telling me was that it was my video card and to contact HP.

I do like the way Renamer works. I don't have trouble using that. I only mentioned that I was using it to convert incase you knew if that was causing the burn error. My thinking is that maybe this was corrupting the file by changing the extention.

I have not used Windows Explorer Rename function. If you have experience with this and trust it I would be willing to try it. If possible please forward more information on how I get to this.

As far as the Wizards. Are you talking about the slide show wizard and Cinamax? If so I will delete these from my dvd and try again. I am very willing to learn how to use the softwhere and want to learn how to use it properly. If you know what I am doing wrong please let me know. I will be happy to give you more detail on what I did if you need it.

My video drivers and DirectX are up to date. I have been to the drives web site and did the update they provided and also Direct X 9.

Is there an way to check to see if a source file is corrupt?

I will uninstill Roxio and reinstall. Other than "add Remove Programs" Does Roxio hide anywhere else that would have to be removed?

I do not want to be a programer of anything but I would love to know what my mistakes are and how to use the program as it was ment to be used. I watched some of the "Get inspired" video on the Roxio web site and the how to video's and this is where I got my ideas. I'm just an average mom wanting to keep the memories of her family on a better that average DVD.

Thanks again for your time and all of your help.

Lori

I don't have a JVC, so this is easy for me to say…

JVC chose to deviate from world wide standards that were in place long before their HD Camcorder came along.

It is not up to the rest of the industry to kiss JVC's a--.

Now to JVC's credit, they do include software that is designed to work with these files and to convert them into industry standard files.

You however choose to ignore that software and decided to use yet another piece of software, Renamer. And you don't like the way it works… (did you ever use Windows Explorer's Rename function?)

Now if I have miss-interrupted some of this, please correct me.

So far, none of this has anything to do with Roxio…

Wizards, in my opinion, are there primarily for those that are unwilling to learn how to use the software.

On the plus side, they can be used for relatively simple projects too, sort of a quick and dirty way to get somewhere.

However, Wizards come with MS Access as well as MS Excel. You can run one of those Wizards and you will have a Data Base or Spreadsheet when you are done… Do not think for one second that you are a Data Base or Spreadsheet programmer!!!

At this point several potential problems may exist, singularly or in combination.

  • your source file may be corrupt
  • there may be a problem with how you are using the Wizard
  • your software install may be corrupt
  • your video drivers and or DirectX may be out of date
  • there could be a problem with the burner/media
Quite a list… But that is what you will have to work on.
