More elaborate titling

MADNESS

Question

Is there any downloads or anything to purchase to get alittle better titling. I like what is in Roxio, but I see other video products with much more vibrant outstanding Titling. Any suggestions on otyher title programs that will work or how to improve these?

Karri - just so you know. Videowave will import .dmsp files without first saving them to another format. I've not tried it lately, but the transparency layers should be there.

That's also an extra step. Just add the video to show through the text on the main track and add the .dmsp on the overlay should give you the same end results. Although using two overlay tracks would give you more freedom to move the underlying video around.

With planning and choices of video, two tracks would work though.

Gary, thanks for clarifying that ... In other image-editing applications, I work in the native file format, save to whatever format called for in the end product, and retain the original for future edits. I know by the file extension which is which.

I tried your method though and, like you said, you can add the dmsp images directly to VideoWave, so I will change that information. I think you have to flatten the image either way but your method will make it faster and less confusing.

I think the added flexibility you get from adding the color panel onto the main track first is worth the extra step, but I will note that it isn't needed, because I am all for simplifying the process :)

Thanks for the help! :)

btw, are my images showing up in here?

karri,

Taking Gary's comments into consideration, an update of the instruction, together with the link to the video, should be posted to the Tips and Tricks section. :)

ok thanks :)

The two images you linked says "We're sorry, remote linking of images is not permitted". :(

Thanks for letting me know. I just set up domain just for emc stuff so I will move them over there for the Tips and Tricks post. Hopefully that will work :)

Might want to experiment with just adding .dmsp files directly to Videowave first. LOL I use other editing software so I normally use PNG too.

I just tried it with using the green letters and chroma keying, without bothering with mask/cutout. You don't even have to flatten the image this way: Just add the image, add the green text, save, and add to VW. Then apply the chroma key. How easy is that ... Thanks again Gary, good info! :)

If not, you can give ImageShack a try. It's free.

Great! Thanks, I'm glad to have a backup plan :)

What doy you mean by "better titling" or "vibrant outstanding Titling"? Are you referring to menus, fonts or what?

I guess I am looking for better text effects. I have seen video that have animated text like fire and 3d effects. Looking for something like that. More professional type text. Yje ones one roxio are good, however I have seen much better. Ids there any programs that are roxio 10 and vista cewrtified that will work?

Yes, there are several 3rd party programs out there that do what you want. BluffTitler is one and Cool3D is another. But these program cost almost as much as EMC 10. There may be others out there, some may be freeware.

Do a google search on "3D text effects" and you will get lots of hits.

Videowave 10 has lots of 3D text effects that you can control. Select the text and then click VIEW/SETTINGS.

As for animations like fire, I've not seen that in ANY video editor, but I have seen it in special effects add-ons in other editors or as stand alone apps which cost extra.

I do like that, Can you ploease give alittle more info on how you did it.

Sure, start in PhotoSuite. Add an image to your canvas in PhotoSuite, then add your text on top of it.

You can use different methods of making the text transparent in VideoWave:

Either cut out the text with the mask tool in PhotoSuite,

OR just choose a bright green color for your text and use the chroma key function later in VideoWave. (Unless you have green in your image, then use a bright blue, or another color that is not in your picture.)

Either way, add an outline to your text (I used yellow).

flag_ps.gif

Save your PhotoSuite image initially with the dmsp file extension so you can go back and edit it later if you want. Then save your image as a transparent png file. If PhotoSuite asks you if you want to flatten it, say yes.

Open VideoWave and add any color colored panel to the main track,

Add the video you want to show through to the first overlay track,

Add the image you created in PhotoSuite to the second overlay track. (If you used the green text method, apply the chroma key to that color on your image overlay, otherwise if you used the mask cutout, it should be transparent already).

Adjust the video on the second overlay track to where you think it works the best behind the text. (For the fireworks in the clip I posted, I dragged it about halfway down the screen.)

Let me know how this works for you or if I can clarify any points.

There is a video tip here that shows a simple way to cut out parts of an image using the mask tool.

OR

Below, screen capture of using the Chroma Key setting (Select Chroma Key for the overlay, use the dropper tool to pick it and it should disappear)

Edited to clarify that you shouldn't flatten your image until after you have saved it as a dmsp file.
