Trouble Burning a Data Disc

LHaws

Question

I also am having trouble. I have had Roxio programs for many years now, and have always had problems on one kind or another. Keep saying that I will not buy the new version, but again, I do.

I am just trying to burn a data disc. Trying to put some photo files on a cd-4. I too have wasted many cd's. The program freezes, the disc will not eject, and I have to manually have to shut down the computer, then eject as soon as it comes up.

Does anyone know what is going on? Any help is accepted, please!

He is using Data Disc and it does report disc info instantly…

Obviously something is amiss here. But since it will not report anything for ROM drive, it looks like everything he is doing is correct.

Sorry. I stand corrected, but how do we know that it will not report anything for the ROM (?) drive?

Not sure where you came up with CD ROM DRIVE. LHaws clearly stated:

Since the option to create a data disc is for BURNING, what would be the purpose of showing a drive that doesn't burn?

There was some mild Guru Drift, I was answering ml's question. And I thought that you were too.

…but how do we know that it will not report anything for the ROM (?) drive?

I do understand that LHaws's is selecting a burner and that his problems begin after he tries to burn.

Perhaps if you were to tell us exactly what you are doing, someone might be able to help you. "Trying to put some photo files on a cd-4 (CD-R??)" is very vague.

In don't know ml…

I guess at some point you just have to believe a fellow guru who actually tests things?

PC with NO Burners – Data Disc will not even allow you to select a ROM drive!

A ROM disc should ALWAYS be reported as 0 bytes frees since those are closed. Looks like RoxioCentral reports bytes used and nothing else for a CD ROM.

LHaws - have you tried using Creator Classic? It may work better for you and does the same thing.

We were talking about a CD-ROM DRIVE not a disc.

As I pointed out, Data Disc will not allow any drive that can not Write to even be selected!

The example you show is from a Burner with a disc in it, but not a CD-ROM drive.

Would be nice is LHaws got back here and let us know what is going on.

I am sorry, let me try again. I am trying to transfer the photos that I have in a folder on my computer to a disc so I can remove them from my computer yet, still have them available. I open data disc, choose the files that I want to add. When listed, I have tried both putting the disc in before adding the files to the list and after, with the same ending....After having the list, and the disc is in the burn drive, in the left bottom corner, it shows the disc and how much toom is left on it, and when I click the burn icon in the bottom right corner, it hangs. At the top of the window, it shows "not responding". I cannot get out of the program, nor eject the disc. I have to manually reboot to eject the disc. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program. No change. Please help.

Thanks!

Are you using WinXP or Vista? Are you trying to burn a DVD or CD? Do you know what CD/DVD burner you have?

It shouldn't matter when you put in the CD or DVD. The program doesn't look for that CD/DVD until after you hit the burn button and since that's where it 'hangs' we need to have more information about that burner.

*edit * At the bottom of that data screen, what does it show for your burner? ( under Destination selection )
