Apologies for venting frustration - but I need help

NoLaLady

Question

I have been using version 9 of the various programs in the suite called Roxio My DVD Studio Premier. I made several DVDs which I gave to my family and even tho they are unadorned and primitive they are happy with them. I bought EMC10 a few days ago and the DVDs I have made so far (encountering several problems along the way) are not playable in anybody's DVD player, which are mostly Sony, but also Panasonic. Is there something somebody can tell me which would not make insist on getting my $100 back for purchasing an upgrade which I thought would improve the problemns I was having?

Sorry. My replies are overlapping.

Yes, the board has been acting up for the last several weeks so sometimes there is a lot of confusion.

As I understand it you have two separate problems. You tried to use My DVD from EMC 10 to edit a Video Wave project so that you could delete some sections and that when you did that you lost the audio. Is that correct? You have used that file before with no problems; correct? You also mentioned that you recently made some DVD but they would not play in DVD players

You probably won't like my response. If you did the original editing in Video Wave and saved it as a project, then you have the dmsm file. Do all your editing in Video Wave. There is a demo video showing how to do this here (second one down). When you are finished save the project, go back to My DVD (not the express), delete the item on the menu that links to the program and then re-add it. That will add the edited file. If you want to stick with the no menu DVD, make sure you start a new no menu DVD project.

A couple of things would help. Please put your computer spec. in your signature by going to the upper right, selecting My Control, about mid way down on the left is "edit my signature". Put your specs there. It will show up in all your past and previous posts.

Did the DVD that you made and that didn't play in other's DVD players play on your computer? What brand of DVD blanks did you use. Ususally you have problems with Memorex or store brand. Have you tried burning the project to an ISO (image) file and then copying that to the DVD? You can test the full functionality of the ISO by mounting a virtual drive, adding that ISO and then playing it on your computer. That will allow you to test the encoding without involving the burner or DVD blank.

You mentioned that you had problems with making a My DVD project with menus. What kind of problems, error message or other? If you got a hang up on the first step of encoding, make sure you uncheck the box for normalizing the audio; sometimes that hangs up everything.

Have you tried to do a repair on the program by going to Windows Control Panel then Add or Remove programs click on the Roxio program (home) and then select repair.

Come back and let us know what you have tried and what the results were and if you have new problems popping up.

I made some simple DVDs by importing Canon DVD Camcorder mpeg files into My DVD. I had hang problems trying to using menus so I did 'no menu' and it was fine. I needed to make another one with a small edited out section, which I did by reading the instructions on using 'markers' and trimming in-between. That attmept and everthing from that point forward has had NO SOUND on the finished DVD. It plays fine in the Project on my computer. The only funny thing I did was uninstall an audio editing program which I was using to convert some files. I may have said 'yes' to one 'shared program' deletion before going on with no deletions. I have a Dell B130 notebook, XP Pro, my video card and ActiveX drivers are the latest available, I keep my video work on an external 500G drive. If any more info is necessary please tell me. I also un-installed Roxio My DVD V.9 Suite Premier - AFTER installing EMC10. Any help would be highly appreciated. I drove to my daughter's house this morning to test the DVDs I had made prior to this problem and they are fine.

If that's the way you want to go, feel free. We don't work for Roxio and the return will not come out of our pockets.

You have given us no information regarding your computer or what applications you are using or how you are using them.

What kinds of problems were you having with the previous version and with this version? No upgrade will fix a computer problem. No software will fix bad blank discs. Does the disc play on your computer in WMP or other software DVD player?

You said here is a dead body, how did he die? (No bullet wounds visible.)

Sorry. My replies are overlapping. The new problem is that there is NO SOUND in the finished DVDs now. This has occurred when I tried to edit an existing mpeg file which I used previously to make perfectly good DVDs WITH VERSION 10 earlier. I don't remember if I used DVD Express or simply MY DVD with no menus. The burning process hung when I used menus. So - in order to snip out a little piece of the file via Videowave I had to select 'Edit with My DVD' in Videowave to use 'Markers'. I did this, saved the file, burned it (many times). The first try produced a DVD which wouldn't play in any of my DVD players this seems to have been a fluke. Then I produced a finished DVD which doesn't have sound. But the sound plays fine in the Project. It was a long confusing day and I'm sure I have forgotten something I did. Please see my previous message in this topic for info on my equipment. BTW a problem I had in the Version 9 programs WAS fixed in Verson 10. Home now works. It did not before. Neither did the Copy programs. I have not done any Clean Installs which I might do. I am just trying to go one problem at a time and right now it's the No Sound problem on the newly burned DVD which I hoped would ring a bell with someone. I'm in no mood to start over with other programs, I already gave away Nero years ago in favor of this one. Thanx.
