Matthew Pittsburgh
Greetings. I need help in diagnosing a problem that popped up about ten days ago with Roxio 6, a program I had installed on my PC about three years ago. Program giving me the problem: Easy CD and DVD Creator 6 Operating system: Vista Ultimate Problem description: When I attempt to view video files or at startup, I see a message that I am trying to use a feature found on Roxio Easy CD and DVD Creator 6. The system searches for the file and then asks me to locate it. When I cancel the search, I receive Error message 1706 that the specified file cannot be found. I have Roxio Easy Media Creator 9.1 installed. I used versions 7 and 8 in the interim between version 6, which I think I had installed in 2004 or so. This problem has only existed for about ten days. I removed remaining folders associated with Easy CD and DVD Creator 6 and cleaned the registry of items that point back to it, yet I still have this error popping up. I recently ran Roxizap.exe but I still am seeing the error. Has anyone see this? Can someone help? My goal is not to see this error again. james_hardin
It is a Vista problem… Since it started 10 days ago, you might want to see what changed around that time to have caused this. Otherwise it it something you would have to throw at a Microsoft group.

james_hardin
I do not pretend to know anything about Vista. Sorry I can't come up with anything of use…

You might try a Program Uninstall/ CHANGE/ REPAIR of EMC 9.1. It's possible that one of the files has become corrupt. ( I don't work for Roxio so I don't know what files from older versions are reused in newer version, but it's possible that there's a v6 file in there.) Otherwise, I'd suggest Microsoft Tech support. Something happened 10 days ago and it might have been a Microsoft automatic update that is causing the problem. You might be able to locate what caused the problem in Microsoft's Update History. I have Vista premium installed and I haven't learned enough about Vista to help. Sorry.

I did just that last evening--uninstalled all EMC 9.1 products (which was annoying since each one had a separate add/remove/repair entry) and reinstalled it. It seems to have worked. Now I'm off to other product forums to conquer Vista's problems. Thanks for your help and recommendations.
lynn98109
The reason everything has to be removed sepearately is that is a requirement of Vista, and it had to be that way to get Vista certification. It's a Microsoft thing. Lynn
