Burning a Data Disc onto a 4.7gb DVDr

Hello, I am trying to burn a Data disc onto a 4.7gb DVDr. The contents of the disc only add up to 4.54gb and it keeps saying that it will have to span two discs. This makes no sense at all. Why would I have to use two discs if my blank DVD is 4.7gb? I am trying to burn this disc as a Mac/PC Data Disc. How can I get this to fit onto one disc like it should? Thanks for any help!

A DVD-R disc may hold 4,700,000,000 bytes, which is only 4.37 GB. You may blame marketing departments of disk/disc manufacturers for the capacity confusion.

 

4,700,000,000 ÷ 1024³ = 4.377
