Runtime Error within Media Capture

J_Mac

Question

I get a runtime error when attempting to capture and get the message:

"Program: ...\MediaCapture10.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

Tech Support is less than helpful so far.

I have:

Uninstalled/reinstalled,

Installed update,

Updated Video Drivers (Online chat),

Checked MSConfig (Online Knowledge Base),

And, e-mail tech support suggested I use a Firewire cable to capture instead of a USB (no, really? What is this firewire, oh wise ones?). I was surprised they didn't ask me if my computer was plugged in.

I hate this stuff...

Please help.

If you are capturing from a digital DV camcorder you have to use a Firewire connection, USB does not work. This is stated in the system requirements. Perhaps a google search might make you also a "wise one"

Yes, Yes, I know about Fire Wire was my point, I thought that was pretty basic as a USB is only capable of capturing video and not sound. Sarcasm never comes across very well on discussion boards (remember, was my computer plugged in?). Anyone else have a solution?

I think that that statement could be considered sarcasm. There are many folks, who drop in here, that don't know what a firewire cable is. Try doing a repair of the main portion of the software, through Add/Remove Programs. Click on the Change tab.

I attempted the repair of EMC 10. I got a dialog box that read, "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternative path to a folder containing the installation package Media Creator 10 Suite.msi in the box below."

I am not sure if this is a related problem to my runtime error, or that the Repair was looking for a file from the Roxio's website since I downloaded and installed a patch previously. Not sure what to do now though... waiting for another brilliant deduction from tech support e-mail I guess.

Another sarcastic statement, I presume  Well, was your computer plugged in?

To have Repair find that file, you need to extract the files (right click/extract) from the .exe file that you have downloaded, to a temporary folder you make, then have Repair, point to that folder.

You will need WinZip or WinRAR to extract those files.

Windows Vista has built in compression/decompression, but cannot extract because the upgrade is an .exe file.

Thanks for all of the suggestions grandpabruce.

myguggi, hard to believe you have the title Digital Guru with suggestions like "Google it," and "plug in your computer." (Sarcasm? Hmmm.)

I'm having the exact same issue and I am using Firewire. Any news on a solution. I just purchased this, it doesn't work, and tech support charges for phone support. What a joke. The folks emailing have no idea.
