How do I create EMC 10 CD from downloaded file?

codester

Question

I am trying to make an EMC 10 DVD that is nearly identical to the one I would have received if I had purchased the DVD along with the download. What I have done so far is rename the .exe file to a .zip and extracted the contents. So far so good. However, I have noticed that some files in the EMC_100 directory should be placed in the root directory, such as autorun.inf, .ini's, and some others.

What I would like is that someone who has the real installation DVD to post the directory/file structure of their DVD. This can easily be done in Command Prompt (may need to run as administrator if using Vista) by entering in "tree D:\ /F /A > C:\output.txt". Where D:\ is the drive containing the disc, and output.txt is the location of the output file containg all files and folders of the disc. Then just copy and paste the contents of the output.txt file here. This way, I (and others interested) know where all the files and folders should be. Below is an example of my EMC 8 CD.

Thanks for any help!!

All you should have to do is extract the files to a folder and then make a cd using Creator Classic using the contents of that folder.Don't burn the folder to a cd,just the contents of it.If you put all those files you are showing onto a cd it should work.

That's what I thought too. I put the folder/file contents of the extracted installation .exe file below. You'll see that some of the files in the EMC_100 directory should be in the root directory (by comparing with my EMC8 CD). I know it's perfectly fine the way it is right now, but I'd just like it to be more like the actual disc...having it autorun and everything. I guess I could just try moving all of the files in the EMC_100 folder to the root, but then I'll have a conflict with the two HISTORY.BLD files...not sure what this is for.

Thanks again!!

Codester,

Here's the contents of the root folder of an EMC10 DVD.

post-208-1200173886.jpg

The disc carries both Program and Content files and folders, with ONE installer for the two items. You're going to have a lot of duplication, and a lot of rewriting of the installer to do if you want to combine both the Program and Content download files into one disc.

Regards,

Brendon

The download file does not have an autorun.inf file in the root as you've noticed.

Take the extracted files from the folder just like Brendon shows. Then to get the disc to autorun make a text file.

The text file should have 2 lines that look like this:

[autorun]

open=setup.exe

Save this text file as autorun.inf.Then take it and place it in the root of the disc you're going to make. Now when you run the disc it should open to the setup program. You can do the same with the Content file you downloaded.

I know this works because I just did it.Just make sure to only place the folders and files you extracted and not the folder you extracted them to.
