ATI Video Card user

Question

I read your ATI notice...down loaded latest ATI driver for RADEON X1600AGP512SB ... now EMC9 says that "Your Video card fails to meet minimum requirements" and will not go to MyDVD.

Previously, could burn ISO file, but was not able to drag-to-disk "Failed to prepare media for CD-ROM or DVD-ROM Compatibility" .... MyDVD also failed .... copy burn image "There was a problem writing to the disk".

Have waist basket full of bad disks.

Help

Did you follow their instructions about deleting the old drivers before installing the new drivers? Using dxdiag can you tell if the correct drivers are installed? It is probably this one if you are running XP.

If so, open the ATI control panel and set the display halfway between best appearance and best performance (you can play with it later) AND set the anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering (and any other similar control) to application controlled.

That should do it. Let us know if this works for you. It did for me and several others. There is a post in the Tips and Tricks area of V9 forum that says the same thing.

As for the other; well you got lucky perhaps. Drag to disc is a facility that is great for short term storage of information such as when you want to move information from one computer to another. Anecdotal stories abound with losing information stored on a disc with D2D. Also, you have to have packet writing software on the other computer for one to see it. It is better to use sessions in Creator Classic. You can do multiple "sessions" burn in Creator Classic with the correct settings if you want to add more files later. Session discs can be read on any computer.

Aloha Digital Guru,

Thank you for your response.

I did not read your post reply until after I had cleaned EMC9 from my computer. Had a corrupt uninstall file, so manually deleted everything I could find and used PC Tools Registry Mechanic to cleanup Win XP. Also reloaded the 7-2007 driver for video card. After reading your reply and cleaning up my computer, I used dxdiag which reported no problems and I created a Win XP restore point,

I reloaded EMC9 using the standard install (as apposed to the custom) and I enabled the Normal Startup System Configuration Utility. When EMC 9 is loaded, I get those little boxes that say “Your system has recovered from a serious error, please tell Microsoft, send, do not send.

I opened the ATI control panel and set ½ point between appearance & performance. Could not find anisotropic filtering control.

I enabled DMA.

I exited Drag-to-disk.

In MyDVD 9 I selected software (vs. hardware).

OK, I can now create short, one or two movie, with menu, to iso file, which then will, using Tools, Load Disc Image, create a DVD that will play on TV.

How ever, If I try to use full DVD capacity (like 75 to 80%) MyDVD 9 will, when burn is clicked, hang and after waiting a couple of hours check with Win Task Manager, report for MyDVD 9, “Not Responding …”

Thanks for your help …. Do you have any suggestions for this current problem?

Aloha Digital Guru & Gigital Master,

Thanks for your response. Yes ... I am choosing software for My DVD, tools, options.

Even though I have Win XP SP1, when I load EMC9, it loads Win XP Hotfix (SP2) q329112. An effect of this Hotfix is that you must now click on the user box to continue loading Win XP .... where before Win XP would load completely just by turning on the computer.

When I first loaded SP2, about eight months ago, I was not able to access the internet and could not work out the problems between SP2 and Panda fire wall & anti-virus. When SP2 was loaded, I was cut off from Panda! .... was not able to resolve the issue.

What is interesting is that the driver you loaded is the most recent on the Diamond site but ATI has a driver dated this month. I have a HIS card and looked there, they have one from Dec 07 for your card. I'm not sure why Diamond hasn't updated their site.

Updating the driver from ATI might be something to consider but it isn't going to solve the SP1 Vs SP2 issue.

Did you ever "talk" to Panda about the issue? I'm sure that, if they had problems with SP2, that they came out with a patch. Also, are you able to update all the security patches from Microsoft? What are you going to do when SP3 is available?

EMC 9 requires SP2.

Windows XP SP1

I think that the minimum requirements is SP2.

Make sure you set rendering to software. Go to My DVD or Video Wave select tools, options and put a check mark next to software.

Here is a screen shot of my ATI control panel showing the settings. Yours may be different. To get to this, I just right clcik on an empty area of my screen and the top option is ATI Control Center. (Click on the image to get a better quality image).
