Volume control fails when capturing with LP and Tape Assistant

rcharbon

Question

When I'm capturing audio from line in on my soundcard using the LP and Tape Assistant, the recording level controls, the "Auto" level set button, and the balance control have no effect on the recording levels. I have to open the Windows Sound control panel and set the recording levels from there. Any idea why the controls in Roxio fail?

Also, my turntable has a switchable integrated pre-amp, so I can run it right into my line in jack. The level coming in from my turntable is very high when the pre-amp is on (it's unusable when the amp is off), so I have to make very finicky adjustments at the bottom of the recording level range in order to get a good level. Is there an adjustment I can make on the computer to give me a wider usable range for level control?

My system:

Audio-Technica AT-PL120 turntable with integrated pre-amp

HP Pavilion a1640n with Windows XP Media Edition (automatically kept up to date with patched by M$)

-the Realtek High Definition Audio card that comes with the HP system, driver version 5.10.0.5485

-DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

Something is not right; a turntable without a preamp does not put out enough signal to be captured. You are not also running it through a phono set up also are you? i.e.; you go directly from the turntable to your compouter's sound card.

I've always had to play around in Windows to get the capture to work properly because when you run other programs in this Suite such as a video editing program, the defaults are changed. I don't know why.

I have never used Media Edition; could that be the issue?

Do you have other choices for Capture from?On mine under Capture from it shows my sound card and then under Input is where the LineIn gets set.

I know from other threads that the Realtek High Def Audio can be a tricky thing to get working right.

Only "RealTeK HD Digital Input", which is an input I don't use.
