Sorry for the delay. I was on vacation.

Well even i am not convinced my self about this issue. But i can say confidently that my laptop doesn't read any CD's or VCD's.

I searched lot of sites but didn't find any where similar to my problem. After inserting cd or vcd it doesn't even spin that in the drive. Is it a hardware problem? If so why is it playing DVD's properly.

Once agian sorry for the delay.

Open Windows Media Player, from the top file, open, navigate from the look in drop down box to the drive with the disc in it. Change the Files of Type at the bottom of that window to Any File. Then click highlight the MPEGAV Folder open, is there a MUSIC01.DAT file in it, highlight it and click open. Your VCD should open in Windows Media Player, does it?

It is showing as if like there is no cd or vcd in the drive. when i press the drive link in window explorer it open up the drive.

I don't understand what your saying, could you explain it better?

Or call Dell, your CD Drive laser might be dead!

If you ejected the VCD while burning, that CD is a coaster and will obviously not play.

Also, is your DVD player capable of playing a VCD? Not all players do, in fact propably most will not.
