How do I perform a "super clean" reinstall of Toast 7?

VictorDob

Question

Hi everyone,

I still can't use Toast 7 at all in Leopard, but since Roxio has quite likely the worst support website in existence, I would like your help, tips and suggestions on how to perform the cleanest uninstall / reinstall of Toast 7. I know that it's usually just a matter of deleting the .plist's, but I read about caches and other things that might be affecting this.

Initially I used version 7.0 (or something like that) in a fresh, brand new Leopard install, then I updated to 7.1.3 and still no good, so I'm hoping that a super extra fresh install of 7.1.3 will finally allow me to use this award winning app instead of having it crash after 5 seconds literally.

I did shop around but nobody seems to have a clue of a comparable app to burn on the Mac other than Toast, that's sad and I hope that changes soon because more choice = competition which usually = improvement.

Thank you all for the help!!

Victor

tsantee,

Many thanks! I had tried that before but didn't work, this time I removed xvid, deleted plist files, emptied trash to be extra safe, restarted and I just burned my first DVD finally in Leopard!

Hope things continue working this way, and do you know of any way to have xvid and toast?

It's unlikely that reinstalling Toast will change this on your Mac. There is an incompatibility somewhere that is causing this crash. I suggest checking to see if you have the xvid codec in your Quicktime plugins folder or possibly an early version of perian. If so, delete them. There's also the possibility of a fonts issue. Are you using a fonts manager and have restricted the fonts available?

I don't know of any way to have them together unless there is a new version of the Xvid codec that isn't a problem for Toast. So what you'll need to do is drag the Xvid codec back when you find you need it and not use Toast at that time.

Thanks, so far so good, I did keep the xvid out of QT and the movies I use seem to work fine with Divx instead. The Xvid is actually "Alpha", so that's usually very problematic.

Anyway, Thanks a lot for the help!!!
