VHS to EMC9

Leftbrainer

Question

This is my first experience using Easy Media Creator 9. I am trying to take old VHS tapes and load them into EMC9 so I can edit them and burn them to a DVD. I have a VHS/DVD player combo which will copy the VHS tape to a DVD with the push of one button. So I copy the VHS to DVD and finalize the DVD. I use my PC to read the DVD in the hopes of importing it into EMC9. My problem is that EMC9 does not recognize the files on the DVD. I have tried using DVD-R and DVD-RW discs with no sucess. What am I missing?

Media Import will not work with a DVD disc in V9.

Copy your VIDEO_TS folder and contents to your HD, then import from there.

I do it all the time. Why do you say that??

Maybe you mean directly into v9, then no. But you can use media import to transfer the dvd to the hard drive and then bring that file into a videowave production for editing.

That's because I have had lots of practice with my 16 year old.

Nice One!! Are you comparing me to a 16 year old?? :glare: Sometimes I still feel 16!! Hence my addiction to Guitar Hero!!!

No need to import. Once the VIDEO_TS folder is on the hard drive, try bringing in the VOB files from that folder into Videowave. If the VOB files are not recognized, try changing the extension from vob to mpg before bringing in to VW.

Let us know how it goes.

Rachel, your right you can use media import for a unencrypted DVD in V 9. Every time I used it, it was clumsy and O so SLOoooooW

Is this the olny way you get a DVD to your hard drive? If so you can drag the files off the DVD in explorer to a folder on your HD or use Disc Copier to save as a ISO Image file or DVD Video Folder Set to your HD.

Then you are running V9.1 whereas V9.0 cannot do this.

From the symptoms that the OP described, they are running V9.0…

Nope - I am running 9.0. I have had absolutely NO PROBLEMS doing it the way I described. I would complain if the import took a long time. The other nice thing about it is that my dvd recorder makes menus for my videos so when I pull it up in media import, the menus are divided so I can import them as individual files. I have never done it any other way. Not sure if the other ways described here show the menus as individual files or if they get imported as 1 whole movie.

I will give it a try next time to compare the timing. Like I said, I never noticed that it was THAT slow. Maybe an hour or more long movie would take time but that is expected. I do have some DVDs that I would like to make ISO files from. I will try it out! Thanks.

I didn't mean to start a debate here  !!! I am curious - am I importing the wrong way?? If so, I will take your suggestions, however, it has been working for me!! Being labeled a digital master, although it is quite flattering, it is FAR from the truth!! AND I MEAN FAR!!!!

Rachel, are you learning? Are you sharing what you're learning? That's all anyone who comes here can ask for. You're doing fine and labels, titles and post counts mean nothing. Exchanging ideas and learning new things then sharing them is why I like being here. :)

Hi Rachel,

Debates can be fun, so long as they're not taken personally Rachel. They're a good way to remember what you've learned, and experimenting often overturns things people have taken for granted.

I agree with Paul about post-counts and sharing what you're learning, as long as you don't do like some and post the same thing interminably in every forum. You're doing well, young Digital Master in training. B)

You have learned a lot since you started dropping in here. And, you are passing on what you have learned. You know more than you actually think you do. High fives to you.

Could you explain what program you are using to import and how you are doing it? I also use a vhs/dvd recordable combo player to edit my vhs so I take that disc that is finalized after the copy and put it in my rewritable drive of my pc. I open up media import (you can find this under the home page in applications OR it can be found in Videowave too) in EMC9. I then choose that I want to import video. It asks me where from, and I find the rewritable drive in the drop down menu. You can choose what form you want it in (I always do mpeg), name the file and browse where you want it to go, and then press "import."

What do you mean by "recognize files"? Are your vhs movies in a movie form?? (not sure of the technical term for that - but I assume it isn't a data file or in a mpeg format from your dvd player??)

Hope the above helps. Let me know how it goes and what you were doing before so I can better understand.
