Audio Central

Recommended Posts

I've been using 6 Platinum for ages without a problem until this evening. For some reason, Audio Central is extremely slow and at times almost seems unresponsive. For example, I wanted to rip two songs off one of my very old CDs to add to my MP3 player this evening, and it took almost 10 minutes just to get all the songs but the two I wanted unchecked. When I got to the copy part, it did so speedily. Has anyone else ever encountered the same problem? I tried a repair (from Add/Remove Programs) and rebooted, but that didn't do anything. I finally uninstalled the program, and I'm in the midst of cleaning out the registry before reinstalling. I'm hoping that will do the trick, but I figured I'd put my question to you all in scase it doesn't. My OS is XP (SP2) and my computer has 1.2GB RAM and its speed is 1GHz.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers,

KLD

Programs do not get old and slow down.

They do get interfered with by other programs trying to compete for CPU cycles.

It sounds more like something else has changed and this is where you are seeing it.

Hi James,

I realize that programs don't get old; I uninstalled in case there was a corruption in one of the files re: Roxio. The only other software I've added since the initial installation of Roxio 6 are Adobe Elements Premiere -- the newest version, Digital Media Converter, WM Recorder 12, and Orbit downloader, but I don't use any of them if I get on my desktop to use Roxio, and none of them are running in my start-up apps.

After I reinstall Roxio, if I'm still having a problem, how should I go about finding out what other program(s) might be causing the glitch with Audio Central?

Thank you,

Kris

This is interesting because I had the same thing happen to me on the 14th. Audio Central would not play any CDs in my drive nor would it open any Playlists. It basically froze.

I also tried a repair first. Then when I tried to play a CD, the icon disappeared in the tray and the program wouldn't open. I did a complete uninstall, deleting registry keys, etc. then a reinstall. The same thing happened.

I then remembered there were some updates from 3 years ago for Easy CD6 on an backup CD. Once I installed 2 of those, Audio Central seemed to work. For now, fingers are crossed that that was the answer.

The only thing that changed on my computer was the weekly Norton Anti-Virus scan on the 13th. But this makes no sense because this is routine. A Runtime error message of "ctcatend: MO L65 FO p6x Error Code= 0" did come up. Any other ideas from anyone?

It happens when something corrupts the secret encrypted cddb database that Gracenote puts on your hard drive in a branch off that Roxio folder that Ogdens' linked post mentions.

Delete the Roxio folder and the database inside it the way his post described, and the database will get rebuilt next time you start the software.

Brendon

Did you - by any chance - update or add Adobe Flash Player plug-in recently (like early January)? Or installed any Windows updates?
