Thanks for advice that worked on installing and burning!

Question

I'd like to thank everyone for the excellent advice...I have been attempting to make a DVD of all the grandkids opening Christmas gifts. I'm not computer illiterate, but most definetely amateur.

First, I had all kinds of problems getting Easy Media Creator installed. Followed the directions on how to do a clean install. It worked!

Then I had problems getting the DVD to even start to burn, followed the suggestions on updating drivers...it worked!

Lastly, was trying to get the burn past the last darn 97% mark ( it kept freezing at that point). Followed the directions on using the software render mode, and by darn, it worked! There were some things I tried that didn't work.

I am now listening to "Frosty the Snowman" playing on my TV, while the menu buttons all are playing video of each of my grandkids opening their Christmas gifts. I'm a 52 year old Grandma, and I DID IT! with everyones help here. Took me two weeks, a lot of reading and a lot of perserverance, but mission accomplished.

BTW, why does the software render mode differ from the hardware? What do they mean, and why is it different?

Thanks everyone! I sure do appreciate all the help.

Hardware encoding makes heavy use of your video card so it has to be a good and up to date one in order to work properly. Even then there are some glitches. There are some transitions in Video Wave that can only be used in Hardware rendering. Hardware rendering is also supposed to be faster.

Software rendering makes more use of the program to do the rendering and relies less on your video card. It is supposed to run slower and not be quite as sharp.

The truth is software rendering is more reliable and the time difference is really not noticeable. As you found out, when you figure in the total time, there is no real difference. Many people believe that the difference in quality is also a myth.

Enough information? For a 52 year old youngster, you are pretty sharp! Glad it is working and you are enjoying your grandchildren.

I also hope you made use of the Tips and Tricks area of EMC 9 and EMC 10. There is a lot of good information there put together by the users -- not high level -- put together by Roxio.
