How to burn .avi files with a menu on the DVD disk

stan01

Question

Hi,

I have .avi files and I wanted to burn them on the DVD, also I wanted to include a menu at the main page.

Here how I tried to burn the .avi files on the DVD:

Easy Media Creator 10 Suite -> Data and Backup -> Data Disk -> Add Data (avi files) and click burn.

(It burns very quickly with good quality)

But I couldn’t find how to add a menu at the main page. I don’t want to click next each time to go to the avi clip I want to watch, I want to be able to select from the menu.

I found another way by going to:

Video Copy & Convert-> Video Compilation -> Add Movies -> Options-> checkmark (Create a Main Menu) -> Click Burn.

It takes a lot longer to burn, but that’s alright, but when I insert the DVD into the DVD player or run it from my PC, it doesn't work, it's not able to read. (I tried twice and it doesn’t work), please let me know why? what am I doing wrong?

Please advice..

Thank you.

You definitely want to use MyDVD to do what you want. Take a look at the tutorials section and you'll find all the info you need.

However, if you don't need a compliant dvd to play on standard players but just want to play divx files on a divx player, you don't want to use MyDVD. Use Video Copy & Convert and in the options menu, put a check in the box to use the menu function.

Hi Paul,

I did try to use the video copy & convert but it wouldnt run when i insert the dvd disk in the player. (see my first post, second method)

Thanks,

Stan, when you used VC&C, did you choose to burn to a dvd? I usually suggest burning to an image file then to disc instead of direct to disc as I find in my experiences, it's more successful. However, as Bruce mentions and as I stated in my post, MyDVD is the best way to do what you want but I still suggest burning to an image file and testing it out before you burn to a dvd.

Hi,

Please be aware that you can't use this software to make a menu module which will allow you to chose between a bunch of AVI files saved onto a data disc.

If you use the Roxio software you can either output to a Video DVD [with VOB and IFO files] with a DVD menu OR

you can output to an AVI file which will be one huge file made from the individual clips recoded together with a built-in menu which will only work on DivX players.

Hi Paul,

In VC&C after I added the avi files, I clicked on the burn button. Format: DVD, Output to: Disk/Disk Image. Is it correct?

1. Where is the option to burn the files to an image file?

2. And than how do I test it out before burning to a dvd?

Thank you

Stan, when you choose what you see shown, it will save it as an image file. However, I strongly suggest you try using MyDVD and let it encode your avi files with or without a menu where you can also save as an image file for later burning to disc.

You can test it out many ways, with or without using EMC. I find using the VLC Media Player the quickest. Just drag and drop your video ISO onto VLC and it starts. Plus, VLC will play just about any file you throw into it and it's simple and easy to use as well as small.
