Converting vinyl and cassette tapes via Dazzle

susanowm

Question

I have purchased the DAzzle DVD recorder to connect my old VCR and tape player to my computer. I thought I would be able to use Easy Media creator 10 to capture the input from the Dazzle (USb) to my hard drive, but I can't seem to get it to work. Easy Media Creator only gives choices of microphone, CD and Stereo Mix, none of which seem to capture the signal from Dazzle, although I am able to capture it with the Dazzle DVD Recorder software in a .VOB file.

Can someone help me figure out how to do this directly with Easy Media Creator or at least tell me how to convert from .VOB to something like an mpg?

Thanks for your help!

Just for grins try this.Set up Media Import to capture from the Dazzle as video.Play a tape on the VCR.

Now open Easy Audio Capture and choose Stereo Mix as the input and see if you get something.

I can do it this way capturing the Audio with Easy Audio Capture.Of course if you can you'll capture both video from the VCR and and Audio only file.

This won't help capturing from your tape deck.

The Dazzle device will not capture audio only; it will capture audio as part of a video.

The VOB file is an mpg2 file. You should be able to just load that file into Video Wave. At worst, set windows to show all file type (not hide known file types) and then simply change the extension from .VOB to .mpg.

When you are capturing the video from the VCR player in Easy Media Capture, are you selecting the Dazzle device as the audio input device under options?

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't actually tried video yet...though I see that it does allow me to select the Dazzle device. I was working on copying an old cassette of music (vinyl will be my next attempt), so there is no video component. The audio capture in Easy Media Capture doesn't seem to be able to do this directly. I guess I can capture it with the Dazzle DVD recorder software...which does work (thanks for clarifying that VOB is an mpg format), but it seemed like an extra step that I should be able to do directly with Easy Media Capture. If my laptop had an 'inline' plug, I would do this, but not sure why I can't do it thru the Dazzle/USB connection. Is this not possible?

Hmmm, not sure my last message was clear....my goal is just to get this music into a form that I can save and load to my ipod...not to add it to video. I thought it should be simple...alas, not quite!

To capture Audio only using the Audio capture function, you have to connect your tape player, stereo, etc up to your Sound Card's Line In connection. The Dazzle is not for connecting Audio devices.

Thanks! That clarifies my issue! of course, I don't think I have a line-in connection. I see a connection for my speakers and for a microphone...would I use the microphone connection?

Just be careful that you adjust your Mic input controls in the Volume Control (in xp) settings way down (aee attached image).

You don.t want to overdrive the microphone input. You may have to play with the seetings to get it right.
