4.7 GB Disc Capacity only 2.12 GB

I am trying to record 2 hour 2 minute TV recording from EyeTV to Verbatim 4.7GB/120min DVD+RW. In Toast 8 Titanium I get message "Not enough free disc space. 3.7 GB needed only 2.1 GB available." Toast pdf says "DVDs hold about 4.7 GB of information - 2-5 hours recording." Can somebody explain how I can make the recording?

I used a new disc from the box.

If the error message was about "disk" space then you don't have enough room on the hard drive where the Roxio Converted Items folder is located. You say it is "disc" so that is referring to the media. That info comes from the drive after it examines the disc. I don't know why it would get this wrong but I suggest shutting down your Mac and leaving it off for a few minutes before restarting. If that doesn't change anything check if a firmware update is available for your drive. Also check with a different brand or type of discs.

tsantee, It was a disk space problem. I re-started from an external drive with more free space and that solved the problem. Many thanks you for your help. Interim

Has the disc been erased? Did you do a Quick Erase? If so that doesn't recover the space used. You need to do a Full Erase.
