Can't do a simple CD-R disk copy?!@#$#?

Scott and Darla

Question

I can't get my Easy Media Creator 10 to copy a CD. (it will copy DVD's) I use the Copy Disk function, the burner reads and then prompts for a blank disk. I insert a blank disk and it starts to copy. But in about 1 or two seconds it stops and says it has encountered a problem. To test my drive I downloaded CD Burner XP from the Internet. It will copy a CD so I know the drive is not broken.

Dell Dimension E310 - P4 at 2.8 Ghz, 1 gig ram, Philips CDR8700, Windows XP Home and about the only software on my machine is Office, Adobe and Windows media.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

I installed again with the same results. I un-installed again. SO..................

The great folks at Costco were happy to take back Easy Media 10. It seems several have come back recently. In fact they have a pallet of them on a top rack shrink wrapped with a big sign that says "HOLD". The girl asked where I managed to still find a copy. It had fallen behind a big stack of learn guitar computer programs. I will give Roxio the benefit of doubt and assume Costco got a bad batch.

In the meantime I downloaded a trial version of another brand. (yes, the guy who played while Rome burned). It works like a champ. I wont get back the 10 wasted hours of my life, but Roxio doesn't have, and will never get a penny from me. The good news is: I learned a valuable lesson - Don't every buy software unless you can download a free trial version or take it back!

PS: I would assume my new program probably un-installs with much less fuss. But it doesn't matter because my new program actually works!

I'm copying a music CD (WAV files) from a local band. The disk is not copy protected. The burn goes OK, but when it writes it stops at 702 KB of 327 MB. The clock at the bottom of the screen continues to count down, but my machine is locked up and must be re-booted to recover. The disk shows a burn did start, but only about 1/64" of the disk was written.

I have seen on this board a recomendation to edit my regristry. To remove the upper and lower filters in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. I checked the regristry. My machine has a lower filter but no upper filter. This seems like a high-risk move.

So far EASY Media Creator Suite 10 has not been too EASY. Can you copy music CD's using the disk copy rountine?

I decided to un-install and re-install. Roxio put so many programs in my add/remove programs listing, I could not figure out which to remove or leave. I can't belive the program does not have an un-install routine.

Fortunatly Roxio has un-install instructions on their website. Once again they think it is EASY. Simply download Windows Install Cleanup utility, change "msconfig" to disable background files, show hidden folders, delete 9 folders from the Programs area on my hard drive (or if they won't delete, drage them to the desktop, restart the machine and then delete them), clear browser history, backup my regristry, and finally delete Roxio & Sonic from Current User & Local Machine in my regristry. Wow that was sure EASY. They need to put a warning on the box "Warning: users should be Miscosoft sofware certified programmers, or be willing to spend wasted evenings trying to resolve simple problems with complicated and misleading instructions, or both". This program is going back.

But, did the reinstall work?
