Applications Wont Launch

dleejan

Question

I have had Creator 8 for several months and all was going well. A few weeks ago I began to get a "Photosuit has encountered a problem and must close" message every time that I tried to launch it. I get a simalar message for several other applications(but not all). I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software several times to no avail. I have also run several scans and corrected errors in my system but nothing helps. I used all of the sugestions that were offered to me by Roxio support and these also didn't work. I am new to this software and I am not very experenced with computers in general. Can you offer any advice that an airhead like me use? thank You. dleejan

Since the product worked and now it doesn't, something has been changed on your computer. You also said you found some problems and fixed them. What kind of problems?

I assume you checked for viruses and mal-ware by using at least two different programs (Ad-Aware, Spy-boy Search and destroy, the Microsoft one etc.). What anti-virus are you running? Sometimes the anti-virus programs see something in EMC 8 and deletes it as a virus. Have you had any recent updates to your anti-virus program? Have you tried to make any registry fixes?

Now comes the detective work. Have you added any new programs to your computer? If not, how about software updates - perhaps to your anti-virus. Did you add any hardware? If none of these occurred, there is a possibility that a driver (instructions for a hardware device) may have been corrupted.

Since you didn't post much about your computer, it is difficult to pinpoint what that could be. First download the latest version of DirectX 9c from the Windows update. There was a new on in February. Go to your computer manufacturer's web site and see if they have any updated drivers for your sound card and video card. If you have a computer like a Dell or HP, they will have specific updates for your model of computer. Follow the instructions. If you had someone build the computer for you, get out the specifications and see what audio and video devices you have. Laptops are more difficult because the manufacturer's often do not post the updates or they have a special way of doing it. If you post the information on your computer, we can try to find updates for your devices.

The last resort would be to completely delete all traces of the software from your computer and re-install. After you make your next post, and if you want to try to completely uninstall, ask again and someone will post the complete instructions.
