The Wizard Was Interupted Before Emc* Could Be Installed

smith2513

Question

I get this error "The wizard was interupted before EMC8 could be installed. Your system has not been modified run setup again" It starts with the installing software window then goes to this roxio screen every time. I have played with this thing several time in the last month. Help anyone? I have no other applications of any burning programs and not traces of roxio in my files.

Thanks smith2513

I'm having the same issue. It appears that the program loads fine at first. The read me file loads, I get the desk top icon, then the installation wizard starts something called a rolling back action. The green load bar is full and begins to decrease from right to left. When the last green bar is remaining, the desk top icon disappears and I get the same message as above.

I have tried all of the issues listed above, but no luck.

I have a store bought copy. Does anyone know if I can download the software from the website using the key code that came with the CDs without having to pay for the product again?

My system is as follows:

Microsoft Xp Home 2002 edition with service pack 2

amd- athlon Xp 3000+

2.17 ghz, 448 mb of RAM

153 gb with 112 gb free space

Thanks for any help.

:) I recently purchased this product and am having the same issue about the wizard was interupted. I've tried everything that was suggested here. So did smith2513 get his figured out? If so Please let me know how, or if there are any other suggestion out there. I've also tried the copying it to the hard drive and then tring to install, no luck. I would appreciate any additional help. Thank you

I cannnot figure this one out. I have tried many things and I cannot get it to install. I have never had an issue installing anything on this computer. I cannot even past the "please wait setup is installing" it goes directly to the finished screen after about 20 seconds. tried the hard drive thing with no luck also. I have had this product for a month now.

Copy the contents of the Progam CD, to a folder on your hard drive, and try to run the installation from your hard drive. It worked for many folks in Version 7 and 7.5 but have no clue whether or not it will work with 8.0.

Ok still the same thing here. This is really beginning to suck.

Okay, I'll try. I'll download the program and let you know. I've been trading e-mails with roxio and they have given me the same things as above to try. The one thing they had me do different was go to my msconfig file and turn off all of my start up programs. This did not help either.

Still didn't work. Two questions though.

1. If I hit cancel before the installation program starts the roll back action, would I be able to run the program?

2. Is it possible for me to download the software over the internet using my cd key to activate?

Hi smith2513,

You may have your files and folder settings set to default, please open you file explorer and go to the tools\folder options tab and change the "show hidden files " item like show-in,

As this file is a INF file and normally they are set to hidden mode...

if you do the search after changing the settings, it should find it, then you may want to change that setting back to stop anyone from deleting system files...

regards

I still come up with no file. I set up to search all drives and it searched about 20 minutes and nothing came up. Any other ideas?

No luck yet. I am with you on waiting for roxio help. I dont get home till 6pm so there is no chance for me. I am ready to do a fresh install of XP I have no other ideas. If you get any please let me know.

If I do get it installed, I'll let you know what I did. I gave the software to a lady friend of mine and she was able to install it. She said it took a Looooon time though. I have not been able to talk with he to see what she did. So like I said, I'll let you know.

Please do the same.

Thanks

Harland

Try this:

a. Go to Start->Search

b. Click on All files and folders

c. Search for a file called msxmlx.inf

d. After search completed, right click on each file and select Properties

e. Uncheck Read-Only (if checked), click Apply and OK

f. Re-install EMC8

-Disable any antivirus/spyware programs during installation

No such file was found. What is this file .Any other ideas?

I guess I have made some progress. I called their help line (and wasn't charged). The fellow helping me was not able to fix my issue. He said that he is tech level 1, and he is now going to forward my problem to tech level 2. I'll let you know if tech level 2 helps or not.

I did not have a problem installing the software.

I can't figure it out. I have never had a problem like this. It has never even tried to install from the begining. It continues to say that it was interupted and the only button on the roxio screen that i can hit is "finish"

Did you ever have any luck getting the software installed? And if you did, what did you do to complete it?

I would appreciate any and all help.

Thank you

I'm still trading e-mails with Roxio support. Still could not get the instal to work. They recommended I install windows installer from the windows website. I did, and durning installation, the program started the same roll back action as the roxio software, and I got a fatal error message and the windows software did not install. Does anyone think that maybe there is something wrong with the windows software that could be causing this instead of the Roxio software?

On the last e-mail, the Roxio person said that I could call their help line and not get charged for the call as long as it was an installation issue. I'm going to try to call, when I have a few hours to kill.

In case anyone is wondering: I got mine fixed!!! Turns out I was missing some files in my Windows XP OS. I had to purchase a $20 restore disk, but after restoring windows, I was able to load Roxio with no problem. Hope this helps.

Very nice of you to come back and post your success. I am glad that you are up and running.
