Not Enough Space On Destination Drive: Take Ii

CJN1962

Question

Hello:

My question was buried in a previous thread so I'm trying again. Using My DVD Express, I attempted to burn a movie that is just less than 2 hours long to DL media. Using the "fit to disc" option, the settings at the bottom of the screen indicated that there was some room left on the disc at "HQ" quality. However, once the transcoding was complete, I received the "80004003" error. I also received the same message when trying this procedure at "SP" quality, where there was a substantial amount of space left on a DL disc. A screen shot is here:

I was able to create the disc successfully by creating an image and then burning, but why didn't the above procedure work?

Also, would someone please explain what the difference is between creating a disc image and creating project folders? I assume both can be used to burn a movie to disc at another time?

Thanks for any help,

Chris

What is the best and easiest way to leave your computer alone to convert a couple of movies into HQ Image ISO files so that you later on put them into DVD?

I'm not sure about converting a 'couple of movies' but depending on what the input file is and your computer system, it could take quite a few hours. I would start by doing a disk clean of your computer by opening My Computer, right click on your hard drive and choose Properties then click on Disc Cleanup. After a few minutes you should see a box with some suggestions for temp files to remove and then allow the program to clean your drive. Then a defrag of your hard drive (see this free, fast disk defragger) is a good idea.

After you've done this, you may find the system a tiny bit faster. I still think using MyDVD in HQ mode and not Fit to Disc and saving to an image file is the best and most successful way to encode your files. Once you have the Image (ISO) file done, you can burn as many copies as you want to disc and save the ISO for future use if you want. A fast and easy way to view your ISO before you burn to disc is by using VLC Media Player. This free and very useful (and small) program will play just about anything you throw at it. You can simply drag and drop your ISO into the player and view the file to see if it's what you want before you burn to disc.

Finally, use Video Copy & Convert (or Imgburn) to burn your image file to a dvd.

Great advices, great help. Thanks alot!

Although if there is no problem I would like to also ask another thing. You suggest that HQ is better and I do agree BUT for this particular movie, it will not fit in HQ and so I had no choice but to choose "Fit to disk". If there are any methods to burn HQ images so that it would fit that would be Great to know :) I mean even though this file is PART 1 of the full movie it still does not fit in HQ mode. This movie is a combination of 2 files in excellent quality of 700 Mb each. I had intended to Burn each file on ONE DVD so that I could have the movie in 2 DVDs but not even one of those files fit in HQ mode , So you see that is where I lose options? Or is there any options? ( I hope I explained things clear :D )

Thanks alot once again!

Sounds like you have divx or avi files and since they are highly compressed, when you add them into MyDVD and encode to a dvd, the files then need to be made DVD compliant and that is what takes so long and more space. VC&C should be able to shrink to fit to disc for large files. I've successfully used it to fit almost 7GB to a disc at reasonable quality.

I would like to offer one other solution to you and that is to try the 'Divx DVD' program in the Home screen under 'Video'. It's actually part of VC&C on the Video Compilation tab. And again, I suggest you output to an image file. You can give it a try and see if that's easier for you. You don't have much at all in the way of a menu or customization like you do in MyDVD.

Have you tried burning without using the 'fit to disk' option? Since you're using a DL disk and you're burning less than 2 hours to the DVD, you shouldn't have to use that option.

I don't know why you're getting the error message.

An 'image file' (.iso) is a self contained file ( one file ) that contains an 'image' of what will be burned to a DVD.

A project folder is a folder that contains several files that will be burned to the DVD.

The total file size is about the same, so it's a matter of personal preference which you want to use.

Hi, Yes here is another guy crying out for help about THE SAME DESTINATION DRIVE ERROR.

:glare:

Chris has the exact same problem as me and by reading older threats about the same Error I have found out that the problem is not if either it is "Fit to Disk" or "HQ" because we know before Burning that the movie fits into the DVD.

Now which drive the problem is from? If only I knew.

How can I change the drive destination? from which options/preferences ? Gosh I'd love to know.

I have agreed along with everyone else that this error "Destination drive doesn't have enough space. Error while Burning Image

80004003 Error while Aborting" Is NOTHING BUT an incomplete statement. This whole problem starts off because the Error gives enough information to only drive you mad and nothing else.

But Hey i'll complain to the Roxio employees later

Right Now its you people that I need and I would gladly appreciate for any help . Thank you!

I always uncheck the Fit to Disc option and choose the HQ and if the ISO is larger than can fit on disc, I let VC&C fit it to disc. It does a good job of this and I find it quicker than using Fit to Disc.

In the meantime, if you have successfully made an image file and can't burn with VC&C, give Imgburn a try.

Hey I'm going to take your advice and try with HQ. By the way I am trying to burn directly unto DVD without using any ISO formats. When I check the HQ the file was bigger than the DVD. Although I want to absolutely burn my Movies in HQ so what do you suggest I do?

Also, what is VC&C? And if I do have no choice but to go by converting it into an Image(ISO) file and then Burn it, what would be the steps to take? and which program to use? Is there any program within Easy Media Creator itself?

Thank you!
