Trouble Reading (hearing) .vro Video Files

Dear Community:

Can anyone please help answer the following problem I am having with .VRO files:

I record video on my Canon DC40 mini-disk camcorder for all of my voicelessons for myself and my roommate. All is fine when inserting the disks into my HP MediaCenter PC, and using Windows Media Player to play the .VRO file - all plays perfectly (both audio & video). However, when sending the file, or giving the mini-disk to my roommate so she can copy her voicelesson file onto her Dell PC, only the video plays on her screen and NO audio, using Windows Media Player. We have tried changing the file type to .mpg, .mpg4, etc. and using I-movie/I-tunes to play, etc..nothing works. Error messages related to 'codecs missing' appeared first; my roomie uploaded the latest version of Windows Media Player, and now error message appears saying 'No rights...' or something stupid like this. What the hell can we do to get these perfectly recorded mini-disk files to read on her Dell?

Thank you!!
