Sonic, Roxio & Dell

Question

Apologies in advance if thispost is in the wrong place. If so could someone point me in the right direction please.

I've had a Dell Dimension 3100 for a couple years. Recently the dvd rw has stopped working. There's power but computer doesn't read any type of disc inserted, so can't play music, can't load software etc.

Have been getting the update manager pop up a lot saying a file is missing um.something.

Running windows xp sp2, Roxio MYDVD LE and Roxio Creator LE. Creator front screen says no drive detected.

I've gone through Dell's online help to be told no help can be given and suggesting Sonic may help.

Any ideas anyone.

thanks

Tony

Hi Tony,

I agree with Fred.

Windows does all the disc reading regardless of any writing software you have installed. If the Windows can see there's a drive there [in Control Panel] but the drive can't see any disc, then the drive has a problem. Check in Device Manager for yellow warning signs on DVD/CD-Rom drives to make sure it's not a software driver problem.

The 'droid who you dealt with at Dell would have been more honest if he just told you to "get lost, it's out of warranty" rather than try to blame the software Dell gave you and still refuse to help. [if it isn't out of warranty, get stuck into them!!]

Regards,

Brendon
