Crashing And Unable To Upgrade 8.0 To 8.05

dmundwiler

Question

I have been having problems with my computer crashing (Intel 865PERL motherboard, Pentium 4 2.4 GHz, 1 g RAM, 359 gigabyte harddrive). This has been happening at various points in almost all of the MC 8 modules. I tried to apply the update hoping that this would fix my problem. However after the download I get a message saying that I don't have the correct version. I do have the CD version obtained via the Roxio store. What I have is build 300B76A. I seem to recall seeing a message in the forum board before it was cleaned out about a build that was shipped out that was not supposed to have been. Because the message is gone I can not check to see if that might be my problem with the crashing. BTW, what I mean by crashing is that the computer just totally stops responding to anything (no cursor movement, no keyboard input, no drive activity, etc.). Only hope is to hit the reset key. I have even gotten extreme and tried reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling the software with the same result.

If someone would kindly offer me a workaround I would greatly appreciate it. Same goes with the installation of the patch.

Thank you in advance.

Yes, I did attempt to install the update to 8.05. Even though I have the retail (CD version), when I attempt to install the update I get a message saying that the update is unsuccessful due to inability to find the proper version.

As far as other packet writing software being on the computer, this is negative unless there is some bundled somewhere within Windows.

I have installed the most up to date drivers for my video card (All In Wonder 128 Pro) from ATI's website. I downloaded Direct X 9c from the Microsoft site. I do automatically download and install the Windows security patches.

Any other ideas as this is really getting frustrating and a waste of money on software that I can not use!

Thank you.

Hi dmundwiler,

Have you tryed to run the update patch 8.5 on it?

you can find it by clicking Software Updates to your left menu, and then by clicking EMC8.

you should see this below.

also make sure you dont have any other DVD or CD burning software running in the background like direct to CD ect befor you try to install the app or update.

hope this helps you

Make sure you have ALL Window updates especially those for IE security. Parts of EMC8 depend on Windows Explorer.

Make sure you have DirectX 9.0c

Update all drivers especially video drivers and sound drivers

Do not install other packet writers like Nero InCD, Sonic DLA, etc., if you install Roxio Drag to Disc

These are good places to start.
