Emc 10... Prety Much Nothing Works

bartman

Question

I've just spent a fun filled frustrating night trying to get this software to work. This is a new instalation from disc. The first time I installed it took almost 20 mintes. Then the main program would not launch so I re-installed. This time it took about five mintues and when I clicked on the icon the program launched. I then registered the program. Then, after navigating to the "applications" page I could not get any of the individual programs to launch. MY DVD does nothing when you click on it, MY DVD Express pops up a little "promram launching" graphic then does nothing. Several others are the same. Most of them pop up a windows error box. Then when you ask to "send the report" you get a memory error message then nothing. I did "complete" installs four more times with no new resutls.

I'm going to return the software becasue now I simply don't trust it, the on-line "service" is a joke and keeps randomy denying my password as I try hunting for info and the "flagship service" 888 number does not really work.

I've heard Roxio has a bad reputation. Now I know it.

If it took 20 minutes to install, there is something wrong with your PC. That seems to be supported by the fact it doesn't work…

This Forum is not Support so you will be better served by going to the Support page and phoning Customer Service directly for a refund.

I have been happily using Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 Platinum for many years and decided to upgrade to Creator 10 having received a million spam emails suggesting I did. I mainly did it to get MyDVD bundled.

I have had exactly the same problems as Bartman!

I spoke to Support:

First, they said downgrade MS Media Player from 11 to 10.

Then they said de-install Creator 6

Then they said de-install Nero

Then they said de-install Creator 10 and re-install it.

Did all that. Some things now work. MyDVD and MyDVD Express still don't. Others GPF before I can do anything. Almost all programs GPF as you close them down.

Now what do I do?

(Glen711, you say "EMC10 is not 'defective'" but if it isn't what is? I find it extraordinary that you say this. This section - Program Errors/Crashes/Hangs - has 437 topics and 2,248 replies yet this is a retail tested version, not a beta test! I've have NEVER bought a new product off the shelf that doesn't work. Never.)

Kindest regards

James

Obviously something is wrong with your computer or setup. Companies can not test their products with every conceivable hardware combination on the market. Window's biggest weakness is the registry. It's very easy to corrupt entries and some of the worst to do that is registry Cleaners that are supposed to help. Even Norton's One Button Checkup has a habit of breaking software.

Well yes there could be - probably is - but I use this computer all day every day and every other program works. If it was my machine surely SOMETHING else would fail but nothing does - graphics progs, previous burning sw, previous DVD software, games, all MS products, Firefox, etc., etc.

I'm sure that my Registry IS 'dickie' but no other program blows up because of it.

What do you suggest I do to try to get this clearly faulty and over-sensitive sw suite to work as it should?

I have fallen into that line of thinking way too many times. Although it sounds quite logical, there is usually something still amiss that can be over looked. What? I don't know since I'm not at your computer.

You went through the steps on uninstalling previous versions,, but if that is all you did, there is proably still tons of left over files and junk in the registry. EMC also uses DirectX extensively just like some games. You must have a good video card, recent updated video card drivers and the latest update to DirectX 9 (doesn't apply if you have Vista).

Follow these instructions carefully! Click here

Instructions are for Vista, but should work for WinXP, too

Then do all Windows updates

Update your video drivers

Update DirectX if needed

reboot

Then reinstall EMC 10

Fair enough.

I will do all that you suggest to the best of my ability, I promise, and then report back here.

Hopefully, I'll have good news. :)
