Had to get back to you James. I'm sory if I missled the original poster. What I was trying to say was I use DL disks to do backups from my computer with version 7.1++ AND it includes all my DMSM and DMSD files. But I didn't mention that I also save on the same DL disk all of the folders that contain the information for each of the roxio productions. Those folders can always be placed back on my computer in the same spots, so I haven't had any problems so far. AND, I think I did say that version 7.1 DID have the option to use DL disks and now that has been confirmed.

Being just a "ROOKIE", I sometimes don't say everything that I should to explain my post and I agree that it could confuse some of the real newcomers. I'm trying James !!! :)

You're right it is----REDWAGON, but I'm sure you knew that.

Red: I did understand what you said, just wanted to confirm that the rest of the project files were being saved to prevent you and other readers from coming to grief at some later point.

On that subject, how well does that work? Have you tried restoring an old project with success?

Hello,

I have a Philips DVDR 1648 Double Layer, which is supposed to store 8.5 Gb.

But in V6, the Classic Creator stops at 4.7 Gb.

I did not found any update.

How can I write 8.5 Gb ?

Not with V6. The ability to burn to Dl was added in V7.5, I believe. I don't think V7 had it.

You might want to read the reply posts by "James_Hardin" and "mlpalsey" that was a result of a questions posted by "Pondern" with a subject named "Trouble Creating DVD's--Dual Layer DVD's". A lot of users assume that if they have a Dual Layer burner and the approriate blank media that they can burn a DVD that will hold 4 hours or so. EMC 7.x will recognize dual layer drives (most of them) and can burn data to 8+ GB. I use my Sony DRU-720A DL drive to make backups of most of my personal files, including my Roxio DMSM and DMSD files.

By the way, I am running EMC 7.1.1.189 ENU (latest update, I think for version 7). And it DOES recognize 8.5GB media. When in the "copy data to disk", look at the "Disk Size" box in the lower left hand corner of the screen and it lists 8.5GB as one of the options.

Yes, I have saved previously burned DVD projects using my Sony DRU-720A DL drive and then later restored the project to my slave HD where it originally resided. This worked O.K. except for one file that (After I had restored) I changed by using a different name and that caused me to have to go looking for that particular old file name, which I managed to do. The original file and name were still on my computer, so glad I didn't delete it. Other than that all went well.

You are right about having to have ALL of the original file information that was used to make the production along with the DMSD file. By the way, that means you need all of your original audio files used for the production as well. Otherwise you are doomed to failure. Especially if you have deleted some of the original file material.

That's a good remark you made about how all this works, for others, that might have thought you could just save the DMSD file itself and be able to restore your entire DVD production. So take heed to anyone else that might want to save some of your productions.

Thanks for the reminder for other readers, James...

Interesting. I had picked up the info that EMC 7.1 was the first Version to support DVD Dual Layer, but I hadn't realized it was Data only. So presumably EMC 7.5 is the first to support Video on DVD Dual Layer.

It isn't data only, Lynn and I'm sorry you were misled.

I had to go to Ask Roxann to refresh my memory and here's what she said:

"NOTE: Dual layer support for burning DVD video discs in DVD Builder and recording to dual layer discs in Disc Copier was added 7.1. "

Red (Mr. Wagon?): You mentioned saving dmsm and dmsd files. You realize that those files are merely notes of what you want to do with a project and contain absolutely no other files!

Without every other file connected to that project being present and in the exact original location, those files will be totally useless.
