Videowave 8 Won't Let Me Even Try To Add A Clip

I just purchased and installed EMC 8. I can open VideoWave 8. But when I click "Add Photo/Video" in the Add Content panel, the program stalls. I can restart it by opening and closing the Task Manager (Ctl-Alt-Del), but go no further.

 

Tools->Show Media Selector does the same thing.

 

If, instead, I click on "Production" in the top menu, and then on "Add Photo/Video", I get box entitled "VideoWave 8 Application Error". The contents of this box are 'The instruction at "0x0044578a" referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be "read".'

 

Here is my system info:

I'm getting the same exact issue. If I Add Photo/Video from the menu it crashes with the same error

code you get. If I use the Add Content

pane from the left hand side it just hangs for a bit and then comes back with nothing happening. If I open

the Media Selector I can see my .avi files and it will let me drag and drop them into the scenes but after

a few seconds of crunching it completes and there is nothing in the scene. I've got an open Web Ticket

for this but Roxio hasn't updated it since Sunday night so I'm getting pretty frustrated. After reading all

the posts here I've updated to the latest version of DirectX and upated my video card drivers to the latest

versions. I've reinstalled twice with no change in behavior. The audio functions and data functions in EMC8

are all working fine, it's just video that's causing me pain. EMC7 on the same machine works fine. I wanted

the dual layer capability which is why I went with EMC8.

 

System Details:

Dell Dimension 4800, 2.8 Ghz with HT, 512M Ram, NVideo GeForce 5200, 120GB & 500GB ATA drive

with plenty of room on each. Windows XP Home SP2

Judging by the low available physical memory, you may have other programs running that take up CPU time and memory. When you go to do video work, make sure you are disconnected from the internet, have run at least two anti-malware programs, defragged and rebooted. Shut down any programs that are running and are not needed such as your anti-virus and anti-malware program. Make sure your virtual memory is set to about 1 1/2 times your actual. Have you installed the latest version of DirectX 9© and the latest version of IE 96 or higher) ?. What video card/chipset do you have ? Are the drivers up to date?

In my case, I've disabled everything run Ad Aware and Spybot, drive was just defragged when I added the 500GB drive, VM is set properly. IE is important?

Yes-but. You have a completely different computer than the original poster. Better that you create a new thread. In the meantime, go to VideoWave, tools/options. Run the test. Does the program default to hardware or software?. Set the program to software and try to add the files using either method. Are you able to do this? What other programs do you have open when you are doing the video? Make sure you have set the virtual memory to 1 1/2 times your actual memory and that you have set your computer (XP) to run with the best performance; not best appearance. Where did you get the AVI files?

 

If I remember, EMC 7 did have double layer burning capabilities in one of the updates. You may want to keep or re-install V7 on your computer and use it for video (in the worst case scenario). Many people like it better that the video properties in V8. Do you have IE 6 on your computer?

Yes but I do not know why; the system requirements list :<LI>Windows Media Player 7.1 or higher and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or higher

 

The program probably uses some of the files in IE. Some people have removed IE because of all the bad press and use only Firefox or equivalent. That is why I asked.

 

Did you do the test in VideoWave and what was the result?

I was having an identical problem. Here's what fixed it for me:

 

I had previously set my hardware acceleration to the minimum setting to fix the problem with poor quality/asynchronous output of videos to DVD discs. This fixed that problem.

 

But, VW 8 would not allow me to add any files to new productions and woud behave as described above. I adjusted my hardware acceleration setting to the maximum and immediately thereafter I was able to add files and edit video normally.
