Concensus On Emc10 And Emc9

bostondriver

Question

EMC 10 Deluxe Suite just arrived. I went throuh all the pain described elsewhere to get EMC 9 installed and do not want to remove EMC 9 unless I have to. I needed to do a total wipe of all Sonic/Roxio to get EMC 9. It's been working fine since I finally got it installed.

I run XP SP2

From what I read here, EMC 10 can be installed without removing EMC 9. But I'd like to get (at least a rough) concensus on how sucessfull people are doing this. Since I removed all Roxio/Sonic to get EMC 9 installed, will things be smoother going forward?

I've got 10 installed on 3 systems that had 9 already installed and I've been relatively lucky. If you haven't already, take a look at this pinned post about v10 and NTLDR before you do anything and you should be good.

Let us know how it goes.

Already printed it :)

I bought EMC10 Deluxe Suite from Amazon, as Digitial River never shipped my EMC 9 Deluxe Suite, just Suite + Dazzle. I think I received A DVD, not CD version of the prouct (just 1 disk.) I hope it already has the update.

Since I don't have Sound Soap and all the other extras not part of EMC 10, I don't want to keep EMC 9 around long. I just want EMC 9 there until I get through the learning curve (or if EMC 10 doesn't install!) Given the 30 day return clock has already started, I need to try to get this working ASAP.

Other than the DVD key I just read about, are there any other activations (like EMC 9's MPEG-2) that I need to do? I'd rather find them all now, than later.

I'm not so sure there are versions out there with the update already. I know of one person for sure who recently purchased v10 and it DID NOT have the update included. Likely they run a bazillion copies when it was first released and it's most likely they've not run through them all yet.

Activation happens in the background with V10 so just let the install complete and register your copy and if the stars are aligned, you'll be in business.

My copy did have the update. I bought EMC10 Deluxe Suite from Amazon less than a week ago. Media arrived on DVD, not CD. Well, I did software update as instructed and there were no updates. I also didn't see the NTLDR problem.

I litterally just installed on my laptop. It doesn't have EMC9 on it, but does has Dell preloaded Roxio SW. This isn't the long term home, but since I need to blow this disk away shortly, I figured I'd try on this system before trying on my workstation at home. I also needed to answer the question about how EMC10 behaves with (Roxio OEM) Blackberry Media Manager. I asked Roxio, they said ask RIM (Blackberry). RIM said ask Roxio. <g>

Is there anything I need to activate (e.g. 3rd party software, codec?) I'd rather test that out now.

Just to add another comment about having EMC 9 and 10 both installed. I am running Vista Home Premium and have both 9 and 10 installed. I installed 10 after I had 9 installed and everything works O.K.

I also have a computer running XP/SP2 and have 9 and 10 both installed on it and I also installed 10 after installing 9 on that computer. Both are working O.K. as well.
