H.264 Experiences On Toast 9

wgunder1

Question

The truth is I have been able to makeBD video discs with Toast 9 from any HD format ( HDV, DVCPRO HD, Uncompressed 8-bit HD, HDCAM). The only sad news is that it could not be in the h.264 format it could only be in MPEG 2 the reason being is that the codec Roxio decided use for h.264 is version 1.0 by mainconcept now owned by divx. The problem here is that this codec version is extremly buggy and no matter what kind of system you are running it will 9 times out of 10 fail. It is my suggestion to all the users that bought Toast 9 set the blu-ray output to mpeg 2 and use the custom settings if you have to because the obvious truth is that the current h.264 that Roxio has implemented is not ready. However I have Learned that Divx and Mainconcept have produced version 2.1 of there codec which showing rave reviews and admiration from critics so hopefully in a future update (soon I hope) we will see this resolved.

Oh in case you wandering here is the crash report I was getting in all of my video tests (64 in total).

Thread 18 Crashed:

0 com.roxio.Toast 0x0038e800 CMCOutput::SMC_chunksize(bufstream*) + 4

1 com.mainconcept.mch264vout.010 0x02009094 h264OutVideoPutFrameV + 1860

2 com.mainconcept.mch264vout.010 0x0204f3e8 h264OutVideoNew + 272760

3 com.mainconcept.mch264vout.010 0x020117d8 h264OutVideoNew + 19816

4 libSystem.B.dylib 0x9320ab98 _pthread_start + 316

Now look I am not trying to come down on Roxio they do make great products. I am just trying to provide helpful suggestion to all that have had issues with this untill Roxio provides a proper update to fix this issue.

Later.
