Downloaded Update 8.05, Won't Install, Please Help

andreah1

Question

UGH! I used free download manager to download the new update as I have dial up. It literally took days and hours. And after all that time I tried to install it and this is what I got: "cannot be unpacked....the executable you have been trying to run has been corrupted. please obtain another copy and verify its integrity" Are you serious? Do I have to download this again? Can someone help me? I'm hoping there's a fix to this instead of wasting another week trying to get it downloaded? Thanks!

I downloaded EMC8 update on a CD. It will not automatically update the product. How do I update from the CD?

Your post is not easy to understand. What are you talking about? What version of the software do you have?

Open Creator Classic, click on Help, then click on About. Post the version number here.

The 12/05 update is only intended for one version of V8: " Update the Retail (CD-ROM) English version of Easy Media Creator 8.0 Suite (Build 800B85C) to 8.05 (Build 805B30B). To verify the version you are currently running, you may launch an EMC 8 Suite application such as Creator Classic and click on HELP-->ABOUT.

Important Note: This updater is intended for CD-ROM purchases acquired from a retail vendor only. Do not apply this update if you have downloaded your version of Easy Media Creator 8. "

Assuming that applies to you, you will need to download it again… Try to get a friend with a High Speed connection to do it for you. Or you could try your local library and use a PC there.

Someone please lock this topic, its going nowhere now...

The recent replies are on the edge but not quite over the edge yet...

Beust5 has realized that he has the latest and greatest. He still has unresolved issues and needs to post in an appropriate conference (EMC 8 General?) to continue troubleshooting.

TGC's issues (rant?) seem to stem from a faulty install and perhaps needs MS's installer update. Although he may not even need the update as he does not mention his current version number.

He is also complaining that he doesn't know how to use Windows Explorer to change a File Type association. (hint: Explorer - Tools - Folder Options - File Types tab)

These are matters that any of the regulars here would be happy to discuss but it really deserves a New Topic post (with details) instead of a me too, me too reply.

My system is :

Asus P4c-800e mother board

intel 3.2 Ghz chip

2gb memory ddr

Sony 720 dvd recorder

Yamaha cd r/cdrw recoder

Verizon Fios

Ez Media creator suite 8.0. Not the deluxe version. Retail box for compUSA.

Norton Systmworks premier 2006

hope my posting is proper.

I have had over the last 5 weeks been contacting Roxio for help about the issue of the down load of their latest update.

Seems their "Website Is experiancing Some problems" Especially when registering the software.

I digress a bit with this information. But it was only after three calls to the "Help Line" that i was able to down laod the software up date.

And yes it did not complete the install. Im having the same problem as the rest or seems most of us are.

The version of theEZ media suite itself is :

Build 3.091A

Version is 3.00

But when you got to the classic creator module ithe version is 8.0.? Why havent they targeted the EZ media Suit 8.0/ 3.0 version and not the classic which reads correctly as what version it is?

Its no wonder the update wont work it cant find the module for which its intended for.

And when I got to look for the update under the classic version it says there are no updates available.

Isn't the update meant for the classic module not the entire suite?

Im getting more and more confused. Since it wont install it changes nothing. and i can lucky for me uninstall the suite without problem. I tried turning off my Norton Systemworks but nothing changed. Even removing the Systemworks changes nothing.

Your post is not easy to understand. What are you talking about? What version of the software do you have?

Open Creator Classic, click on Help, then click on About. Post the version number here.

I have Easy Media Creator 8. I have downloaded a software update from a faster computer, took the disk home and now it will not install the update. I guess I am so upset with this Roxio product that I don't even know how to explain my dilema! I need to know how to take the software update from a CD instead of it taking approximately 11 hours to download on my snail download dialup connection. (It took only 15 minutes here at work to download the update!)

Thanks for all help that I can get!

The update for Easy Media Creator 8 at the Roxio web site only applies to users who purchased Retail CD version of Easy Media Creator 8 that has the build number 800B85C

Noted: The steps below would allow you to check the build number for Easy Media Creator 8

a- Double click on "Easy Media Creator 8" icon from Desktop or Click on Start -> All Programs -> Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 -> Home to launch Roxio Home

b- Go to Home -> Applications and click on either MyDVD, Videowave, Sound Editor or Creator Classic

c- Go to Help -> About after the application is launched

d- Under "General", you will find the build number for Easy Media Creator 8

There are 2 versions of EMC 8: the Suite and the Deluxe Suite. Why don't you try and answer Bruce's question so that someone can offer some help? Where did you get your EMC 8, from a download or is it a retail copy?

I looked it up must be what they mean by already updated. The build reads as 805b308. So I'm assuming that this update then is not for me, correct?

Thanks for the help. although it still doesnt explain why my system crashes in the middle of recording dvd's or cd's. I think maybe i better up date my bios as suggested in a prior post before istart thinking tthat the software is to blame. Ill eliminate all other causes first.

But Version 7.5 worked fine on my system. i should have left well enough alone. Newer doesnt necessarily mean better.

Thanks

Bruce

I, too, am completely disgusted with this product and Roxio. I installed from the CD. Extra stuff did not install fully. First installation would not work. Generated Windows fatal exception error messages to be sent to Microsoft. I tried downloading the update. 3 nights trying, only ½ of the file received. Of course: useless. I spent an hour at the library and got all 114mb. Update still failed. “The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may be a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.” I reinstalled the program from the CD. Took near forever to get rid of the first installation. Tried to upgrade. Same error message. This is not a program – it’s a virus that we stupidly paid for. Now my complaint is that the arrogant thing wants to substitute PhotoSuite for the Microsoft Image Viewer and WILL NOT release its claws from .jpg files no matter how I try to change the association and actions.

You have mysympathy, newbie. I also tried for a whol week to get the update. and the local library finally threw me out, because i was"Hogging the Computer". Hmp, there were 7 other computers in the room and they had to moan about that.

anyway. I think they have no clue about whats wrong cause they cant duplicate it. The guy on the phone line kept saying but i am downloading it right now. Where from the computer in the next room?

Please guys go back to the way you did your old software it worked. not this one. You went too fast to get something out to rival NERO. Quess what i tried it and it at least works. No Crashes no hang ups. What did they do right that you havent?

Maybe Beta tested it first to get the Bugs out?

hope you find your solution Newbie. I know i will either i do or i format my computer and then Ill never use new software that hasn't been out for at least 6 months. this is ridiculous.

yeah right... About says:

Module Name: Roxio Creator 8 Suite Home

Version: 3.0.0

Build: 3.0.90a

nothing like the numbers you gave!

Go into Creator Classic or Disc Copier and go to Help and then About and you'll see the numbers you need.

I have the same installation error as originally posted by 'andrea1'; i.e. "cannot be unpacked....the executable you have been trying to run has been corrupted. please obtain another copy and verify its integrity", except that I am upgrading Creator8, rather than updating.

A few other details: (1) I obtained the upgrade as a download (also by dialup, ~8 months ago), and used this copy to sucessfully install Creator8 on my Win2K OS, (2) Now that I am using XP, I have the install error, (3) I have both install files and tried to install the program before the content--though the other way gives the same error, and (4) I re-downloaded the upgrade, but it doesn't work any better than the original download.

The two files in question are...

RoxioEMCSuitev8.05_efisd.exe

RoxioEMCContentCDv8.05_efisdj.exe

Any suggestions on how to procede?
