Unlinked Menu? What Does This Mean

grego137

Question

in mydvd9 i've been tinkering here and there and doing sample burns to see which way works out the best.

on my recent sample burns, i'll take the finished dvd to the family room pop it in the dvd player and the movie instantly starts up, and if i hit the menu button on the remote, it will go the the slide show that I also have on the dvd, and now the actual menu doesnt exist??? everything looks and works fine in the 'preview'. seems like its on automatic play???

what can I do to switch this back to where when I put the dvd into the player, it goes to the main menu where i can then choose to play the movie/start slideshow/or scene selection.

thank you

Go to MyDVD, click on File, click on New Project, and select DVD. Bring in your VideoWave file, and make whatever menu you want, and burn it.

my menu is there, when I open the project to work on it.

My menu is there when I preview the project (works perfect)

but when I burn, and insert the dvd into the dvd player, the movie immediately starts.

I want the main menu to come up after I have put the dvd into the player.

Is there an automatic play feature that is 'on'? I may have checked it by accident or something?

thank you for the reply

Is it possible that you set it up as DVD, no menus? Or did you add it as an Intro Movie?

neither.

the project has menues and has no intro movie.

to make a long story short, this was a project that took months. I have added and removed things here and there.

In its finished stage, it is a movie that is 1hr45min long, it has 48 chapters. I have 12 sub menues with 4 chapter selections on each, I have also created a 9 min. slide show.

On the main menu I have a background pic. with music that plays until you select one of the 3 options:

play movie

scene selection

slideshow

I am 99.9% done with the project.

i've been doing some sample burns to see which one had the best quality:

hardware/software render

progressive/interlaced

iso/direct to disc.

all of my sample burns work like they should, menu comes up, navigation works , buttons work, movie plays, slideshow plays etc...

I changed the menu style, did a sample burn, and noticed that the sub menues had the words 'chapter menu' on them, I highlighted 'chapter menu' and deleted all of them.

then.....I've never noticed this before, but when i look in the project view area of the screen (lower left) (decending tree thing) I noticed a new section called 'unlinked items' and lists allot of 'chapter menu' like 24 of them. i've been tinkering trying to remove this unlinked stuff, but with no luck,,,,i dont even know what it is?????

ever since I did the menu change, i've been having the problem with the main menu not popping up, (going straight into the movie)

Again, the main menu is intact and perfect when I have the project open and working on it.

and it all works perfectly when I preview........

but when i do a burn, then play that back its skipping my main menu and starting the movie??

Sounds to me like you messed up the navigation logic when you manually tried to remove chapter menu stuff. I would try going back into the edit chapter function that you used to mark and create the chapters with initially. Then uncheck the option to create chapter menus and see if it gets rid of the unlinked stuff.

Larry, the only thing I saw there was a box 'update chapter menues' (at bottom left of page)

its been checked since start of project, i just unchecked it , and clicked 'ok'

i'll try another burn, see what happens

does anyone know what unlinked menu means or unlinked items?

they are now present in my project view area in the lower left corner as part of the decending tree thing. I have no idea why they are there and what they do??

thanks

Why don't you do a Save As at this point, giving your project a different name, and delete them…

If that creates a disaster, the Save As will have kept your original project intact.

thanks for the replies.

all problems are solved.

I had created multiple sets of sub menues by accident.

I went in and deleted all the unlinked items and extra sub menues from the project view area (lower left)

and now everything is working like it should.
