Importing Video - 4 Gig File

MADNESS

Question

I am importing video from my camera to an external hard drive and it will not allow me to transfer more than 4 gigs at one time. It is not going well and then I am getting noice in between. Is there something I am doing wrong or is it the drive I am placing the video on?

It could be due to your file system. Is it FAT32 or NTFS? If FAT32, you have a 4GB limit. Are you getting any message stating something about not enough drive space?

I hve the same problem and my external is an Iomega NTFS format - still keep stopping at the 4GB limit everytime. This never happened with EMC6, which I used or three years without a problem! Any idea? Thanks

Thanks, I got it to work on my regular drive

You're still going to have to convert that external drive to NTFS if you want to store DVDs or anything else over 4 GBs. It's one of those 'little things' that they don't bother to tell you about some external hard drives.

It's easy to convert the drive to NTFS. Go to your Windows Help and type in NTFS to find the quick way to convert the file system. I don't know if it's the same command for XP and Vista.

Capture to the internal hard drive, in your PC, then transfer it to the external.

Your external is formatted FAT 32. Reformat it as NTFS.
