Removing Unwanted Scenes

StevenQ

Question

I have had Easy Media Creator 8 about 1 1/2 years, and have played with it occasionally. I am retired, somewhat computer savy, but not very knowledgable about movie editing and so forth. I have captured alot of movies/clips or whatever each capture is called, from my Sony DCR-TRV740 camcorder. How do I remove frames that make up an unwanted scene from a clip? I have tried numerous functions in Video Wave 8, if this is the correct place, all to no avail. I tried starting at Roxio Creator 8 Suite Home, I clicked on DVD & Video; under Edit Video, it says: Create professional looking video by removing unwanted scenes, reordering content and applying special effects. Clicking on DVD & Video, from that window, I can not seem to find a way to remove the unwanted scenes. Help has not been of any help, nor have the 2 books I have. It probably is my ignorance regarding the terminology required to perform this and other functions.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. One of my books is the User Guide which came with the program. Is there a page/s which I can be refered to?

Thank you:

Steve

Which version of V8 do you have? Is it a program you purchased or one that came installed on your computer? Videowave is the place to edit the video. You need to be in the timeline mode, and click on the video to highlight it. Are all the icons above the tracks visible or are some greyed out?

Patty:

I purchased it online, July 2006. It is Version 3.0.0. In Videowave, with a clip/movie opened, timeline mode- one icon is grayed out between "Add Background Audio" and "Add Naration". It appears to be 2 squares with some lines, one offset and on top of the other. When you say click on the video to highlight it, do mean open it. I have been getting the video clip by clicking on Add Photo/Video, and retrieving them from My Documents/My Videos folder.

Make sure you are in the timeline mode in Video Wave. you should see the first frame of the video and a long "blue" line that shows the length of the video. You edit using the preview screen above all the controls.

Below that are the other tracks native audio, several audio tracks, several overlay tracks, effects tracks, etc. To get a quick idea, just below the preview, go to show hide tracks and you'll see some of the available tracks, adding audio or video will add those below the preview and main video track. I don't have any images to EMC 8 to post.

You may also want to try this (link) if there are a lot of scenes that you want to detect and delete. It is for EMC 10 but it is pretty much the same for EMC 8. mage below is for EMC 10. Perhaps you can indcate the location of what you are asking about.

Select the video is simply clicking on the blue line. A dotted line will surround that video (as opposewd to other video you've added in this project) other videos) and you'll be able to edit that part.

By the way, look at the tips and trick area of both EMC 9 and EMC 10 for a lot of good user generated solutions/tricks etc.

Also, that version 3 is the version ofr the home page. Look at the help when you have VideoWave open. It will be an 8 number. There were several versions of EMC 8 from one that was severly crippled to the deluxe which had all the options. Thta's why the question about the Version of EMC 8.

Regarding the Videowave, it only says 8. Not knowing anything about these programs I bought the Easy Media Creator 8 Suite. It sounded good to me. So basically I bought a piece of crap.

To clarify what I am trying to do- I am working with only One video. I do not know how to add one video to another.

With the one film clip in Preview, the video track shows the length of the movie, with the verticle Blue line at the beginning. Putting the cursor on the verticle blue line enables me to move the blue line. There is a Red box/line around the movie in the video track. Clicking on the movie in the video track seems to put a black box around the movie in the preview pane, and the red line disappears from the video track. I still can't figure out how to remove/delete short sections (group of frames) from the movie video. Everything that I see to choose from seems to Add to the video.

It's actually pretty simple once you know how it's done.

When you move that blue line, find the place where you want to start deleting video. Then click on the 'split' icon.

Now move that blue line to the place where you want to end the deleted video. Split it again.

Then click on the 'scene' that you've just created (outlined in orange) and click on the 'delete' (red X)

Thank you very much for that specific piece of information. I will probably have more questions later, but for now- THANK YOU!!!
