kris j
Hi guys, I've been using easy media creator back when it was called easy cd creator. the featurs to backing up files and selected folders coundn't get any simpler as was th case for easy media creator 7 and earlier; because they used the old wndows explorer tree for you to select your specific files. now the use something totally different in EMC 10 that makes it almost impossible to select individualy selected folders for backing up. In theyre attempst to mak things simpler they compliated it even more. When wil they bring bacck the old way of bakin up that was simpler andd made more sense. I now have to use windows backup featurs for backing up.. Although I am a loyal user of emc, their main feature is one they did not really addess. Is anyone else out there like me; frustrated with the way the new backup system operates?? kris j
Kermit1
Yes. I am in the same boat as you. I really like Backup MyPC product which allowed me to select different folders to backup rather than ONE/All or nothing in a single backup project. I am really disappointed. I thought the newer version (BackOnTrack) will be better. Also, if I want the full product, I have to put out additional money to get the Back On Track 3 Suite which you cannot even go to the Roxio online store to download. I am going to seek out better backup products like Norton Ghost or something like that.
lynn98109
BUMP and BOT are two different programs, each of which was bought by Sonic (as they bought Roxio). They are not related other than being in different Versions of Easy Media Creator. Both Norton Ghost and Acronis True Image have been repeatedly mentioned in these Forums for backups. Lynn So you are agreeing that the Roxio apps are not worth using, from your experience, and people should go elsewhere for backup software? kris j
So you are agreeing that the Roxio apps are not worth using, from your experience, and people should go elsewhere for backup software? As far as I'm concerned being someone who has used their back up features in years past, I would rather find another backup program. Shoot, even windows default back up program is better than EMC 10 Back on Track program. I will probably forgo any other EMC upgrades in the future until they address that back up issue. Its ironic though because to be fair, I love the other copying/burning and audio/video editing features of EMC. I hope they don't mess those up in the future. I just might try Nortons ghost jus to see how it works but for now I'm sticking with windows backup feature. I had EMC 9 as a bundled program that came with my laptop but never used it because I got EMC10 so I am not sure if roxio made the back up switch in that version. I had EMC 7 suite for a good while and then made the jump from it to EMC10.
lynn98109
So you are agreeing that the Roxio apps are not worth using, from your experience, and people should go elsewhere for backup software? I am saying that the final Version made by the company called Roxio (now Napster) was Version 7.0. Sonic bought Roxio, and merged Sonic's RecordNow 7 with EMC 7 to create EMC 7.5. Subsequent additions were programs either developed elsewhere and liscensed, or developed elsewhere and bought by Sonic. OP feels that a nudge might help Sonic move in the right direction in their development of backup programs; but as I see it whatever development there might be in backup programs won't be done by Sonic. However, I would also point out that the "copying/burning and audio/video editing features of EMC" are what Easy Media Creator is about these days. The backup program(s) are secondary. Guest ml
Hi guys, Is anyone else out there like me; frustrated with the way the new backup system operates?? kris j The new backup program is different than the older program. It's really made to either back up files in a selected folder or to back up user data of a particular type and perform automatic backup. You're not limited to one project though. You can have multiple projects that back up individual folders. Once you set it up, it's a pretty automatic process which is what I hear most people wanting in a computer backup program. The automatic archive feature should address that concern. If you want a disaster recovery program, you might want to take a look at BackOnTrack Online from Roxio. As far as BUMP goes, it's not part of EMC 9.1 due apparently to Vista compatibility. But I read it that Lynn was merely offering what has been offered before as alternative backup applications since the OP was not happy and ready to look elsewhere. Yes, that's what I read. I was asking if she was recommending those from experience or hearsay.
