R6025 Pure Virtual Call Error

jcahouston

Question

I am running XP/R2 and have been trying to upgrade from EMC 8 To EMC 10 for a year. I am getting the R6025 pure virtual call error as soon as MyDVD 10 calls VideoWave 10. I have uninstalled and reinstalled EMC 10 several times spent many hours with Roxio support, I have followed and tried every suggestion I could find in the forum and cannot make any progress. If anyone is willing to try to resolve this, please reply. Thank you.

You have been having trouble with V8 and tried to fix it by buying software…

Your best bet is to reformat your HD instead of chasing your tail trying to make it work. V8 works, V10 works but your neither work quite right on your PC.

When I am faced with a situation like this, I buy a new HD, format and install the needed system drivers then the software I actually use. After all is working, I attach the old HD and move over the files is has.

Are you actually recommending that I reformat my hard drive and reinstall my operating system all my applications, drivers, and data to solve the EMC 10 operational problem? How drastic a solution is that? The only reason I continue to try and work with Roxio is due to my library of work done in EMC 8. I have been trying to upgrade to EMC 10 is to use supposed additional function in the newer product. Your second recommendation is for me to spend additional money to buy and install an addtional hard drive to separate code and data. I find neither of these suggestions acceptable. Based on the host of complaints, ideally Roxio support should troubleshoot these problems and issue patches to resolve them, but my own experience and as reported by others, that is unlikely to happen. Thank you for your response but I an not inclined to spend the risk, time, and effort to attempt it.

If I read your first post correctly, especially in light of what you say in this post about your "...library of work done in EMC 8....", your problem is with EMC 10, not both.

If this is not correct, please advise. However, it appears from this post you might be wanting to use EMC 10 with your EMC 8 library. I believe I have read in other threads that EMC 10 is not backwards compatable with previous versions. If you trying to upgrade to EMC 10 and use it with EMC 8 projects, I believe you are out of luck even if you get 10 going.

Regarding work done in EMC 8, I was trying to say that past work is my reason for continuing to stay with Roxio. I have new DVD build projects and would like to do them in EMC 10 if I can get it to run. I have EMC 8 running on another computer.

Just before MyDvd crashes my firewall tells me that MyDvd 10 has called VideoWave 10 and VideoWave 10 issues a call to Windows/System32/dwwin.exe.

Could this be a clue? Just asking?

That windows call is for Dr Watson within Windows and it looks at files and files structures, personally I think it is unlikely to be the root of the problem as dwwin.exe is accessed almost constantly, you are seeing the call because of the problem encountered during the call ( yes I know that is a bit like chicken and egg argument ),.

My first port of call would be to ensure your windows version is up to date.

Make sure you have EMC installed and have been to Roxio to ensure there are no updates

Update device drivers, this is basic sufff I know but it is surprising how many faults can be caused by incompatible drivers.

Try again and see and one other idea, just try it with your firewall disabled...again firewalls, whilst useful against intrusion from 3rd parties, can getinthe way of some applications ( especially some of the sub routines within them )

Make sure there is no spyware on your system, they too can interfere with the smooth running of app's

Lastly, keep taking the tablets and dont hold your breath waiting for Roxio......no one can hold it that long

I have had problems within EMC10 also, whilst trying to create MUSIC DVD, and no matter what I tried I could not get a successful burn without creating a HD image first then burning the image, so it is a case of doing the job twice, then it works everytime.

To date no one at Roxio or all of the good people on here have been able to solve that one

All this process does is make less work for your computer to do at one time. Thats why we cant solve it. Burning to an image file and then burning the image to disc has been a way to work around issues for quite a few years now.

Ok, I give up, again! All the reading, dialog and discussion here and elsewhere has convinced me to reinstall my operating system and start from scratch. Since this will take some preparation and I need to but more backup storage, I will report back when I get finished. Thanks for all the comments.
