Elemental Streams (.m2v/.ac3) Import Into Toast 8, But Not 9

Because the transcoding of Toast is so slow and poor quality (topic for another discussion), I use it mainly because it can create menus and burn disks.

I produce my video content in a tediously long toolchain, ending up with elemental streams (.m2v/.ac3 file pairs). You can drop the .m2v file on Toast 8, and it automatically finds the corresponding .ac3 file. Then you can burn a disk and Toast won't re-encode -- it just multiplexes the files.

This works great (well, everything is relative).

But Toast 9 doesn't seem to accept .m2v files.

What's up with that? Why take out this useful feature?

I just tested with two different .m2v files and Toast 9 accepted them just as does Toast 8. I don't know why it doesn't do that for you. My files are NTSC on a Mac running 10.5.3.

You might try trashing the Toast plist and prefs files in your User>Library>Preferences folder and you might also consider reinstalling Toast 9.0.2.

any error message when Toast 9 doesn't seem to accept .m2v files you used?

[ok - update: after trashing prefs and plist, Toast 9 will import these files. Good suggestion]

Yeah, "video.m2v is in an unsupported format and cannot be imported."
