thestinkymonkey
I have .jpg files on my harddrive that came from a CD that had the program (retrieve.exe version was 6.0.0.171) on it. I can't open/view the pictures in any program (photoshop, paint, windows picture fax viewer...etc...). I do not have the original CD anymore, I can't find it. So in retrospect, I may have just copied the files onto my harddrive without using retrieve. So, are they compressed? If so, is there a program I can run to uncompress them. Where do i get it? Can I use a trial version of roxio media creator or something to see if that program can read these files. If so, where do i get that? I can always SEND one of these files to see if you can open it. thanks
Jim_Hardin
There is more than one way for files to be written that require a proprietary recovery program. Those files could be anything and without knowing how they were written it is next to impossible to recover them. Do you actually have V6?

If they were compressed by easy cd creator or retrieve.exe or some program like that...i would like to at least try to use your algorythm and hopefully uncompress them. Its just that I don't have your program or really know which one I could use.
lynn98109
what is the size of the files in kb or MB? I'm thinking it is possible you didn't copy the files themselves, just the information of where they were - like keeping the grocery list and tossing the groceries. It's something that has turned up on the boards, altho I've seen it more on ECDC 4 and 5. Lynn

lynn98109
That's the right size for a .jpg <whew!!> None of the more recent Versions will do anything with V.6 discspanning - V.6 was one-of-a-kind, unlike what went before or came after. Jim's the expert. He'll be back sooner or later Lynn

thestinkymonkey
OK, and I can always send a file. I"M ALL SET!!!! I downloaded the program infranview and it opens the files. Then I just save it to JPEG. It's funny, Infranview says its a jpeg, but I guess its in a format the other programs like photoshop and windows picture/fax viewer can't open. But I am alllll set. Thank you for your time!!!! cheers!
Jim_Hardin
Glad you got it worked out!!! Some info: This is a users forum and not actually Roxio Support. Thus I don't have any 'program'. I don't work for Roxio. The catchall extension of "jpg" covers a multitude of similar file formats, not all of which are recognized by every program! Whatever worked on these files it was not Roxio!!! If Roxio had compressed them, nothing would be able to read/recover them! I don't know what happened to them, but I do know that the Ifran Viewer is one of the most tolerant around.
