Not really…

NO Operating System has ever allowed the import of analog video.

LIkewise, there is no software made that can import analog video...

You were using an A/D Converter (analog to digital) of some description. It may have been built into your Video Card or an external device.

The clue would be what did you plug the Yellow/White/Red wires from your camcorder into?

It would also need to have some software to process the capture. What software did you have to run for it to work?

I have the older HP M7480N and I dual boot with Vista Home Premium. Vista recognizes my Hauppauge WinTV card just fine and I can capture TV from the coax and from the composite input using EMC 10.

It sounds like you were using the TV card in WinXP Media Center though the coaxial cable from a VCR. To get the SAME ability in Vista, you need Vista Home Premium or Ultimate editions. Vista Basic does not have the Media Center so you would need additional software to access the TV card.
