Cannot Open Video Files

jbzeigler

Question

I recently purchased Roxio Easy CD & DVD Burning software from Circuit City this weekend. I'm running a 3.0 GHz P-4 with 512 mb ram with Windows XP SP-2. When I attempt to open video files (50 minutes in length, .avi format) it shows the icon with a red circle and a / through it (like a no smoking sign). I've attempted to CHAT LIVE with Roxio representatives numerous times and all of their suggestions have left me tired and frustrated. I've attempted to reinstall Roxio, copy the DivX file to my desktop but when I repair Roxio and look for the new file - it's not there. I've put in for new WebHelps a few times but no responses yet. Anyone else have this problem when they first got their program?

It seems the customer service reps haven't been told that Easy CD and DVD Burning has been deliberately crippled at the request or suggestion of the sales department, so it won't handle one of the most popular sound schemes [AC3] and it rejects the most popular AVI codecs.

Please read this thread about the tests I did, and the conclusions which have to be drawn from them. I'd suggest you attempt to return this software to Circuit City.
