Help Set A Record

Most of you tech-savvy people probably know already that Firefox 3 is downloading today. For those of you who like Firefox, downloading today will help to set a download record.

Personally, I don't care about the record, I just use it cause I like it better than IE.

From Dallas Morning News

"According to the official Mozilla blog, the final version of Firefox 3 will be posted online at noon central time today.

Mozilla is actually trying to set a record for most downloads in a 24-hour period with Firefox 3.

You can "pledge" to download the browser within the first 24 hours at the download site if you want to be part of history, and so far over 1.6 million people have promised they'll stop surfing porn, pirated movies and MySpace long enough to make today a day that will live in infamy."

So it won't actually be out for a few hours yet

For those not on Central time - it's Zulu -6 hours so release time will be 18:00z

(current time is now 14:54z)

The US is on Daylight Savings time, meaning Central is in effect on Eastern Standard time - and therefore 5 hours behind GMT.

So, you're an hour off :(

 I wonder what time zone Mozilla website is? Guess we'll find out soon. I'll download it just to check out, but still won't use it if they haven't changed the Autofill feature.

Next best thing Gary - once you start typing a set of boxes come up all ready to be selected

I'll be sticking with FF2, thank you. The "Awesome Bar" should be titled the "Awful Bar". The download manager is dumbed down. And it's difficult to impossible to choose custom icons. Etc., etc. Until addons are available to 'fix' things, it's a no for me.

eck! Exactly WHAT I HATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't want to have to cursor DOWN or sideways or anything. Seamonkey fills in AS IT TYPE in the URL space. All I have to do is hit ENTER.

If I like that type of drop-down list for autofill, I would be using IE. I'm still dumb founded why Firefox has left this out when they split the apps. I'll stick with what works for me.

See below. All I had to type of the beginning and it autofills. Then all I have to do is hit ENTER. No cursor down or using the mouse at all. This is NOT the default setting, but it is an option.

I agree with you on those ones, and though I've become a fan of FF, but I'm not sure I like this new version (entirely) either. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be helping them set their record.

There are a lot of improvements that'll make the upgrade worthwhile, but just not today.

Where did you ever find custom icons in FF2. There sure aren't any in my version. What they give, is what you get. Long live IE 6. :)

Favicon Picker 2 for FF2 allows you to choose any icon you like for any bookmark. That means it's possible to overwrite the really ugly ones. Favicon Picker 2 was also integrated with the Smart Bookmarks Bar which hides labels on the icons and many other wonderful things. IE 6 can't and never will be able to do this (notice I'm still using the old Roxio icon):

Unfortunately, FF3 now stores this information in a sqlite file instead of an html file hence the roadblock.

In IE6, I can use any .ico file I want for icons on my Links bar. I don't know where the Favicon Picker is for FireFox. :)

Interesting.... with Seamonkey it uses the icon designated by each website. IF the website doesn't have one, then it uses the default. Personally, I could care less. I can read the text faster than trying to learn what the icon looks like. I don't care for icons period. I only have four on my desktop: My Docs, My Computer, Network Places and Recycle Bin.

At least unlike a certain other provider of a browser they admit there is a problem and also that they are working on it (and not hiding the fact for several months)

Do you have to have F 1 or F 2..

before you can download 3

Thanks

:)

That's one of the main reasons I like this browser. And...when the fix is available (which is usually soon), it's given to you then, not held onto till a certain day of the next month.

And no, Ijar, you did not have to have FF1 or 2. The program stands on it's own, much as you don't need EMC 9 if you wanted to install EMC 10 for example.
