Saving Trimmed Video

I am seeking assistance on how to save multiple clips in a production as separate files. For example, I start with a saved movie file (in MPEG format) and I extract 3 sections as separate edited clips. is there a way for me to save each of thes smaller clips individually by highlighting and then saving only that clip. No matter what I do, including invoking the edit internal tracks with only the one I would like highlighted, the save always saves all of the clips combined.

Try the old copy and paste routine. Copy the section you want to save, (CTRL-C), go to create new project and paste (CTRL-V) that section into the new project. Save it. You'll have to open the original project again to do the next section.

 

or

 

you can delete everything in a project that you don't want and save it as a new project. Same thing though, you'll have to reopen the original project.

 

Be careful to not over write the original file by saving one of those edited projects as the original file name.

Is there a way to save the "trimmed" piece of video I cut out of a file as a separate item? I want to take different little clips out of a DVD and send them to various people, not string together a whole production.

Sure can. Delete everything that you don't want, in VideoWave, then output what is left as an .avi, mpeg, or whatever file type you want.

 

Click on File/Output As.

One loses continuity when jumping from thread to thread.

 

What part of either thread didn't you understand? If you did it either way, it should have worked. There is no problem doing what you want to do with the software. If it doesn't work for you, it is user error.

Another possibility is to use the scene detection in Video Wave and in Media Manager. You can select the scenes you want- you may have to select more than one and then trim those.

 

Watch this. Once the scenes are detected, anytime select the video file, the scenes will be there. Note that the automatic scene selection may not give you the scene breaks you want so you can do a manual selection.
