Copy Vcd Cd To Dvd

Question

A friend asked me to convert a video CD someone had created for her from digital pictures of her trip. She can't play the video CD on her DVD player but it will play on her computer. How can I convert this video CD (VCD) format to DVD using Easy Media Creator 10?

This may not work to your satisfaction…

In most cases the 'pictures' have been converted into a video movie clip of lower quality. Video quality:

  • VCD 352 X 240 (mpeg1)
  • SVCD 480 X 480 (mepg2)
  • DVD 720 X 480 (mpeg2)

The video will be a file in the MPEGAV folder named xxxxxxx..DAT.

All you can do is copy it to your HD, rename it to xxxxxxx..MPG and bring it into VideoWave to see what it consists of.

Having said that, another possibility exists… The disk may contain the original 'pictures' if the maker decided to include them. You will have to explore the disc to see.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your input on this. What you described is what I observed on the CD. I'm surprised that there isn't an easier way to edit or convert the VCD format since I think the CD was created with a Roxio product. I found the DAT file on the CD but I also didn't realize that the DAT file would be in a lower resolution. I will look for the original pictures also.

Thanks for your help.

VCD CD's are mpeg1, which is very low quality.
