Best Brand Of Blank Dvd Media

Recommended Posts

A rather subjective question:

What is the best brand of blank DVD media on the market?

Memorex? Sony? Fujifilm? Verbatum?

First, it depends on which brands work best with your burner - often the burner mfgr will have some information about that on their website.

Second, there are only a few companies that manufacture optical discs, and most brands contract out their discs to those manufacaturers.

Third, Taiyo Yuden is generally considered the best for both CDs and DVDs - and they still make their own. But they are expensive and rare.

Thanks all - all the brands mentioned are compatable in my drive and set top player, etc....just wondering if one is more apt to issues down the road - one is generally better quality than another, etc....

My vote goes to "Verbatim". (where do you get those "Verbatums" :) ) ? TDK disks have always been good also but with the change they are making I'm not sure about the future.

I've noticed Verbatims on sale much more recently which I hope doesn't mean that their prices are coming down because the quality is worse due to some other maker of those discs. :)

At least the Verbatim I bought from Best Buy (about 1 month ago) on sale for $14.99 for a 50 disc spindle is still being made by MCC. According to this site (link below), is considered 1st class media. I also hope it does not change.

Go to google's froogle service - either click on froogle on he main google page, or if you want to type it, www.froogle.google.com - the prices are incredibly low, don't know if the media is genuine. But you can look it over.

Of course I find this out now that I've burned about 100 DVDs of family fun times on TDK, Memorex, Sony, Fujifilm.

Make me nervous - will my DVD memories on the above media eventually be lost?

What makes the Taiyo Yuden so great?

What makes the Taiyo Yuden so great?

They seem to be "liked" by so many different burners, and they seem to burn and read reliably.

In CD and DVD burning there is an acceptable range for everything. If a disc sits at one end of the acceptable range while a burner sits at the other end, then that burner may have trouble handling those discs - yet both are within the 'acceptable' limits.

This is why knowledgeable folk advise you to "Find a blank disc which suits your burner, and stick to it."

TY have good quality control (no flaws and manufacturing defects), are consistent, and work well with a great range of burners.
