Changing Name Of Dvd Disc

steedyweedy

Question

I want to make a backup of a TV show I made. On my iMac the disc has the name "DVD_RECORDER". Is it possible to rename the Toast disc image so that the DVD backup copy can be called something else?

Similarly, if I combine Video_TS folders, the resulting compilation DVD that Toast creates is called DVD_VIDEO. Can I choose to have the disc named something else before burning it?

I haven't tried this but it might work to choose Save as Disc Image and then rename the disc image file before burning it to DVD using the Image File setting in the Copy window.

Eugene - do you mean opening a Toast disc image and then trying to change the name before burning? I've tried this and I can't get the name to highlight so I can change it. If I drag a VIDEO_TS folder to Toast I CAN click and change the name of the parent disc, but after it's saved, the new disc image still has the Original disc title, not the New title.

The only way I can change the disc name is to copy the VIDEO_TS folder into a new folder which I can give the name I want, so that when I drag this copied VIDEO_TS folder to Toast it preserves the name I'd given to it's parent folder.

I hope there's a more elegant, and easier/quicker, way to simply change the title of a disc in Toast. I'd sure love to know......

(Also, is it possible to change the order of files in the Options=>Custom window?)

I was just thinking of changing the name of the disc image file itself rather than the mounted one. My understanding is you're looking for a way to have the mounted disc be called something else when it appears in the Finder. Your workaround of putting the VIDEO_TS folder inside a folder with the title you want is clever.

There is another way to do this whole process. It involves having Toast author a new VIDEO_TS folder for which you can add a menu if you like and arrange the videos in any order you want. It requires extracting the MPEG video files from the VIDEO_TS folder. Here's how to do it:

Place a VIDEO_TS folder itself on the desktop or in the Movies folder. Choose DVD video as the format in the Video window instead of the DVD video from VIDEO_TS setting. Choose DVD with the top button of the Media Browser. Double click on what appears in the browser window. You should see each title that is in the VIDEO_TS along with a thumbnail. Add the title(s) you want to the Video window. Toast extracts the MPEG files and writes them to the Roxio Converted Items folder. Do the same with any other VIDEO_TS folders. You also can extract individual chapters using the Media Browser. This is done by going to the chapters level via the button that is just below the browser's DVD button.

Once you have everything in the Video window that you want you can drag the titles in any order and edit the descriptions if you plan on having a menu. You have all the menu options including the choice of no menu. You name the disc by clicking on the "My Movie" and editing the name. That's the name that will appear in the Finder and the top of the menu pages. Or you can have a different name on the Menu pages by editing the menu title in the Menus window.

This may seem cumbersome but it gives you lots of control and is the only way to merge videos from multiple VIDEO_TS folders prior to Toast 9.
