justin860
I have not had the best luck with capturing video with a VCR either. I am wondering if it could be my hardware. I loose signal often, and it comes and goes as it pleases. Strange. Any advice?
sknis
I have had the best luck with capturing video with a VCR either. I am wondering if it could be my hardware. I loose signal often, and it comes and goes as it pleases. Strange. Any advice? Are you missing the word "not" in your first sentence? What are you using for the A/D conversion? Get new wires; make sure they are inserted solidly. Although your problems do not sound like the following, make sure that: 1) You have turned off your anti-virus unless you don't trust the VHS tape. 2) Make sure you have a lot of free and defragged space on your hard drive. 3) You do do not capture to an external hard drive. Jim_Hardin
If the same camcorder is giving trouble in 2 different devices, I think you have identified the source of your trouble… Pause offered some good tips, especially the one about the wire. Also make sure your camcorder is running with a power adapter and not on battery. You need full power to drive the motor and all of the electronics at the same time. tbrewst
You still have not told us what device you are using to capture with. There needs to be some kind of device connected between the VCR and the Computer that allows capture of an Analog (VCR) signal.Whether that is an external USB device (Dazzle?) or a card in your computer there has to be one.Maybe that is where the trouble lies.I've captured from a VCR and a Satellite dish both through a Dazzle 100 that worked with the software just fine,no dropouts. If it's a card that came in the computer was there software that came with it that allows capture? If so try that and see what happens.

tbrewst
According to the website the card has the ATI MultiMedia Center software that includes the ATI TV Player that lets you record.Try using that and see what happens. If you still get the dropouts then I'd look at maybe a problem with the card or drivers.Make sure you have the latest versions of both. If the card captures ok with it's software then use it and just use the resulting video in VideoWave or MyDVD to get a DVD.

tbrewst
Again on the website I see where you can download v8.8 but you need the original cd to allow activation of some of the components. Smart them, they'll allow you to buy a cd that gives the original 8.1 needed for that...lol. Did you build your rig or get it from a vendor? If a vendor you might check with them. Good luck. justin860
Built mine. Cyber link software came with my card. I remember that now. It was not compatible with Win XP 64 bit. That is why I couldn't use it. So it looks like I will have to buy the 8.1 disc?

After talking to ATI, they told me to call microsoft for recommended software. And that I would not be able to get the MM software because cyberlink was bundled with my product. So it looks like I will have to make EMC work or just find a new card.
