Media 10

sgtjwhite

Question

Installed Media 10 yesterday and this AM 1st reboot after installation. Could not get onto Internet, have another cmpt networked and I got on ok w/that cmpt. Reset my Router to no avail checked internet connections all OK. Used program restore to a time before Media 10 installation, now all OK can get onto internet. All I can think of is Media 10 Messed up my network card (Realtek RTL8168/811 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC) drivers

Any opinion?

Thanks

Try setting your IP number to a fixed value instead of using DHCP and see if that helps.

EMC doesn't have anything to do with networking - so it's possible your installation was corrupted and that did it

Received an update today from Zone Alarm which stated, upon updating XP it caused a

problem w/ZA “Preventing access to the Internet”. So I was in error in saying Media 10 caused my problems. Installed both ZA & XP updates fixed my internet access problems, all working fine.

Thanks for your reply and concern. Sorry for the bad info

Now if only MS would fix things they screw up as fast as that....

Actually, if you have a properly set up router, ZA and MS Firewall are fairly redundant (most routers have built-in firewalls that will stop anything even getting close to your computer - unless you choose to let it that is)

That would normally be true but the average user invites all sorts of nonsense to their pc's unwittingly. And, you'd be suprised how many routers come with the firewall disabled.
