Analog Capture

spmontgomery

Question

I am running XP Home SP3 and have a Dell 4550 with a 256Mb Nvidia AGP card, IMb ram and 160Gb HD.

I also have a Pinnacle DC10 analog capture card which I used to use with Pinnacle Studio. Studio messed up my WMP so I have now uninstalled Studio and all is well with my setup.

My question is, will I be able to capture/transfer (from Sony analog-tape HandyCam) analog video using EMP 10.1!

Cheers.

Shaun

The question is whether you'll be able to capture from that Pinnacle Video Card with EMC 10 and I don't know. You'll have to try it to see.

Usually using the software that came with the capture card is best, but in another post you've said that Pinnacle didn't work.

You might need to contact Roxio Tech Support to see if that card will work with the program and to help resolve some of the other issues you are having.

Thanks for the reply ML. I have now contacted Roxio Support to see whther they have a known fix for my issues with EMC10.1 and WMP11. With Pinnacle I was able to get over the problem with their help. It was a couple of years later before the problem surfaced again and I am not certain how! Then the problem was not solely with WMP 11 as, at the time, I was running WMP 9. In fact it was after that went wrong that I upgraded from WMP 9 to WMP 10 to see whether that fixed the problem; it didn't and neither did upgrading further to WMP 11. Uninstalling Pinnacle Studio and re-installing the K-Lite codec pack saw everything return to normal operation.

Cheers.

Yes.

You already have EMC 10.1 (as you indicated in your other post). You also need a hardware that captures analog video to PC. Since you already have the Pinnacle device, why don't you give it a try? The proof is in the pudding.

I haven't had the problems that you have had but I successfully used a Pinnacle A/D card in my computer with EMC 7,8,9 and 10 without a problem. Make sure you have the latest drivers from Pinnacle. You may be able to find them here.

I'm not sure how either Studio or EMC could cause problems with WMP. Are you sure that there is not a different program that is doing it. Since I don't remember anyone else claiming this as a problem, I wonder. Have you looked at the Pinnacle forums to see if anyone else has reported this?

Do you get an error message like C00D11B1 ? Read this.

Have you tried to troubleshoot WMP? Go here.. I'm pretty sure your problems are there or something else on your computer and NOT in either of the video programs. Come back after you have tried the WMP fixes.

Further to my last message I have now downloaded and installed the K-Lite Standard Codec Pack. On install it identified many Direct Show registry entries which pointed to a non existent file and were therefore broken links. After removing these and re-booting my system everything worked in WMP 11 as it should, apart from where file types had been associated incorrectly and easily corrected.

Just as interesting was my experience in EMC 10.1. Before my carrying out the above I had tried to use VideoWave but it froze each time I tried to use the Trim feature. After carrying out the above this function was restored to normal and I was able to edit and trim files as I should do.

One feature that I think could be improved is the CinePlayer should be able to support dropping files onto the window instead of having to locate the file and open it each time.
